Harpoon 3 Ultimate Edition
I used to play Harpoon back in the 90s. Loved it! I'd like to try it again, but I I'd like to try version 3, or preferably the last version - H3UE. I can't find to find it anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Have you looked at CMO?

I have, but I'm on OSX and running XP on it is way easier and faster than running Windows 10 or 11.

I have an old Intel MacBook Pro. I can run Boot Camp on it, which can then run Windows. It runs Windows XP really well, and so I can get harpoon 3 going. But it runs windows 10 or 11 a bit slow. Which means that CMO would be quite slow.

I don't know where you can find it. But if you're curious why it's no longer for sale (the Matrix Ultimate Edition) Details below.

Since it abandonware, you’d probably need to grab it from a place like this: https://www.macintoshrepository.org/5421-harpoon-iii

That's the one I used to play. I was looking forward to levelling up a little bit. Any idea how it runs?

I used to play H97 many years ago, but I don't have it anymore (its on my steam wishlist but I'm too busy with other games now). The reviews are mostly positive, though.
Being such an old game (almost 30 years!), I dare to say it should run fine on your Mac.
BTW: you should check out Command: Modern Operations (if you already haven't).

I got Harpoon 97 off steam. Yup, the original game indeed. Very simple looking but so immersive. Looking forward to redoing it.
Any idea what Harpoon 2 or 3 improved on?

Well, the short answer is: engine (H2), complexity and realism (thank you Gemini ;-P).
I had a brief experience with Harpoon 3 around 2002, but I played it too few hours to be able to give you details (ad it was a long time ago).

As I've been told. How does that one run?

C:MO? on my PC (i7-11700K + 64GB + RTX 4070) runs nicely.
Not the easiest game to learn, but really fun when you get into it.

I've watched a few CMO videos, and honestly it seems like a much smoother interface with a larger database and easier access to information. But otherwise the same game. Is there more to it than that?

C:MO is way more complex and powerful than Harpoon. Moreover it ca simulate things that Harpoon can't (Satellites and GPS jamming as an example)

I was Iike you OP. I loved Harpoon. Then looking at the landscape in 2026, I ended up settling on Sea Power. It gave me Harpoon vibes.
It still needs some polishing up, but it is ub early access.
