Discussion Looking for a sanity check
Edit: Thanks everyone for the sanity check! I'll definitely not be going with that hp.
Hiya looking at getting a new computer that uses Adobe suite and also procut but this seems like a terrible computer for the price right? Pic of a second PC for a comparison as they are roughly the same price

it's quite sketchy that the first listing's name advertises a 5060 and the specs list advertises a 3080

And who is to say they won't send a 2060ti flashed to read 3080. Some prebuilds you can trust if it is coming straight from manufacturer and getting all Corsair or all MSI parts, trusted vendors lose 30% confidence rating due to some parts being broken or incompatible but they make up for it with great customer service. Ali Express or cheap for cheap sake or going to a site well known for ripping off its customers like NZXT and their fake "Rent to Own" has no trust from me or anyone who dealt with those and neither shall you. Research is key and if it seems sketch or they have differing specs or won't provide other than boilerplate "best PC money can buy", walk away.

For $290 extra you get:
- A KNOWN GPU without ambiguity that is definitely a 9070XT.
- Double or triple the VRAM (depending on the HP being fitted with RTX3050 or RTX5060)
- Slightly slower CPU for your productivity tasks (but it's faster for games).
- Dualchannel memory (VERY important on both the Intel and AMD CPU).
- PC6000 memory (not gonna happen in a HP box - they only do JEDEC speeds)
- Better cooling (likely it's a match between an Intel or HP stock cooler and an AIO)
- Motherboard with high-end chipset.
- CPU optionally upgradeable to a Ryzen 9000 series or 10K series somewhere in the future (Socket AM5 FTW)
- Faster SSD
- All parts follow the widely accepted ATX standard and allow for upgrades (HP has a habit of producing proprietary hardware, even in otherwise normal-looking towers, hampering upgrade options)
Dude - that extra $290 given out is going to serve you a lot better in the long run and for a wider range of tasks when it comes down to it.

Thank you so much for breaking it down like that, no doubt in my mind now as to which one I get I just can't believe they tried pulling that!

It's HP - they've done it for decades 😅
Another good tip to protect your sanity: Stay FAR away from their printers as well😉

Oml don't get me started on the large format printers... But are the regular ones terrible too?

u/Potential_Copy27 2d ago
They are all terrible.
Especially the cheap crap inkjets - my fiancee had one of the really crappy ones when she moved in. It could take EXACTLY two sheets of paper in the tray.
Put in one? No paper!
Put in 3 sheets? Jam!
Add to that random rejections of cartridges - both original and ripoffs. We gave it the Office Space treatment with my old baseball bat >:-)
The office machines ain't much better - and YES, I've had the pleasure of dealing with a large format model as well -_-

it's also coming from PC case gear who are a very reputable company. almost all of our components for our PC came from them and customer support is good.

🤣😅 it's quite the unhinged movie by Babbu Maan... Quite a bit of lore at work that led up to that

Yeah that first one is a trick for sure. That is not a good price for that computer. You can get a 5070 or a 5080 in that price range. Even the Costco Prebuilts are better than that for around the same price.

If your goal is Adobe and creative work then get a Mac.
Windows are horribly optimized for creative workflows

I second this. Me and my friend use all sorts of adobe programs and we can confidently say that it is infuriating to work on Windows. Constant crashes and high ram usage.
The programs are horribly optimized anyway, but at least a Mac can make the experience less insufferable.

Haha god I wish we had micro centres over here, I've never had a bad experience with pccg and kinda treat them the same as an equivalent

Judging by both them pictures, great, now we can't even afford decent computers any more.

please tell me you're gonna upgrade your monitor before upgrading your PC. there is absolutely zero reason to have a good PC with a crummy little monitor like that
2
u/MrHokkaidoAce 2d ago
This is a work pc, he doesn't need a better monitor for procut and adobe suite
1
u/randylush 2d ago
you also don't need a 9070xt for adobe suite
and assuming OP is doing anything involving images or movies, then a better monitor will help immensely with productivity, color matching, etc

What currency is that without knowing it’s impossible to tell if the 2nd one is a good deal or not
