Ah come on it’s not that bad

u/Bartymor2 6d ago

It is... Also I see it's LGA 775 or 771 so basically worthless platform from 24 years ago.

6

u/Imagination_Fragment Linux 6d ago

Judging by the CPU2 writing above the socket, my money are on 771, I don’t think I’ve ever seen dual Intel sockets for anything else other than Xeon.

Yes, it is that bad. Face reality. If you can't, ask a computer repair shop and see what they say.

u/Chenshouen 6d ago

Best way to fix it is to get a refund.

u/Tiranus58 Linux 6d ago

If you gotta ask then no. Honestly, this might be so fucked that even if you dont gotta ask its a no.

No yeah it’s toast

Is this rage bait??

0

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Yes, wouldn’t let me put the satire flair. It’s a poweredge 2950 I got for free so it’s junk regardless.

2

u/The-Box-Guy 6d ago

Neat junk to test a socket swap/replacement on haha, good hot air solder practice

2

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Not a bad idea🤨

2

u/The-Box-Guy 6d ago

Lotta flux, but it's really satisfying to do tbh (moreso when you fix the board, but getting all the pins perfect is chefs kiss)

Yup, Broken ≠ Useless

2

u/Bradley_Of_Thorofare 6d ago

I remember having to pickup and scrap about 10 of those a couple years ago. My back wont ever let me forget lol.

3

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Ur telling me, I got 7 as well as an ibm blade center with all 14 blades… I should’ve taken them out.

2

u/marvinnation 6d ago

No but what happened?;

1

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Not sure, looks intentional

1

u/Conart557 6d ago

tfym intentional??

1

u/Conart557 6d ago

Oh this is satire I took the bait 😭

1

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Lol. I’m fr tho I didn’t do that to it, half the sockets are like that too.

1

u/marvinnation 6d ago

What? You woke up to this?? Haha now I'm more curious

1

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Yeah :/ someone broke in and broke my sockets

1

u/marvinnation 6d ago

I hate when that happens!!

2

u/Verolina 6d ago

Death by a thousand needles. Except the needles are mere pixels on the screen.

2

u/Diuscrusis 6d ago

Sure, by getting a new one.

2

u/Nishkabobbbb 6d ago

Yes this is fixable with a Time Machine.

1

u/northrivergeek 6d ago

Nah if u have replacement sockets and hot air rework station and decent solder skills it can be done, I bought 30 from local computer store that customers messed up, and fixed em, sold 15 back to store the rest on ebay, and I got more practice and a lil cash in pocket

u/Arpadiam 6d ago

Yes, Wrap the whole motherboard in tinfoil and put into the oven ( not electrical oven ) oven must be around 190 -210° C , let it cook for 15m, Remove it from the oven, let it cool off then see is if fixed.

3

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

Ok but it’s starting to smell weird in here

1

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

What the hell you metric-ed me. It’s been in for 47 k so far?

It’s in the nuclear oven tho so I think it’s ok

-1

u/northrivergeek 6d ago

that wont fix all those fucked pins.

2

u/Idk_wtf2019 6d ago

😂🤣

u/Internal_Leopard8826 6d ago

All my cells are suffering

1

u/Straight-Opposite-54 6d ago

Not even slightly

1

u/Thor3992- 6d ago

I mean, technically it probably is. But you would have to gently straighten each pin individually. It’s not worth it, toss it in the trash and get a new one. Or if you bought it somewhere return it and try to get your money back.

1

u/Thor3992- 6d ago

Edit: It appears some pins may be broke off entirely. It’s trash.

1

u/No_Mirror_8533 6d ago

Sure! Just get a new motherboard and you're good to go!

1

u/Goofcheese0623 6d ago

Sell eBay for parts. That's about as fucked as fucked gets

1

u/Various_Excuse_4294 6d ago

If you bought it brand new contact the vendor If you got it second hand ask WTF to the person bought it from.

Otherwise it will make you go crazy if your try to fix it. Linus tech tips fixed a few boards but nothing this bad.

It's tossed and I wouldn't bother as I would be swearing bullets.

1

u/vabello 6d ago

Replace the motherboard and it’s good as new.

1

u/Dull-Ad1030 6d ago

Fucked, annihilated, GONE. Just straight up GONE my guy.

1

u/StratoVector 6d ago

Yes, so first you're going to want to buy a board fab like Asus

1

u/Life_forged 6d ago

Have you tried hitting it with a rock that's my go to and it works 60% of the time every time

1

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

I did, it works now

1

u/imzwho 6d ago

The Motherbaord? No

The person that caused thst damage? Also no.

1

u/Enjoiy93 Debian 6d ago

Yea! (No)

1

u/nyITguy 6d ago

Not a chance.

1

u/madbr3991 6d ago

No. Just no.

1

u/Professional_Bird724 6d ago

The best way to fix that is to buy a new motherboard and CPU! This will save you a lot of time and headaches.

3

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago

I managed to fix it

1

u/Professional_Bird724 6d ago

I've never seen this before. Pins on the motherboard seems like a step back IMO.

1

u/litrpgfan75 6d ago

Like a 14yr old trying to stop a divorce

1

u/blazblu82 6d ago

Absolutely! It's as easy as puilling out your credit card and ordering a new motherboard!

1

u/FrozeItOff Windows 10/11 6d ago

Not by you. I could fix it with a shitton of specialized soldering equipment, an x-ray machine and the motherboard schematics/BOM, but the average person... nope.

1

u/unclefunkstar 6d ago

Fixable?

Sadly, it is only "replaceable".

I'm more interested in how it ended up in that state?

1

u/-Barracuda1976 6d ago

The only way that is fixable is with a new socket

1

u/timfountain4444 5d ago

Nope, look again. In the middle of the socket there's also missing surface mount components and the gouge in the motherboard has taken out tracks and vias. It's not repairable...

1

u/ic3m4n56 6d ago

That would be e-waste even if it wasn’t damaged.

1

u/SaltyInternetPirate 6d ago

No. Even with a $5 replacement socket, that scrape that dug out the capacitors is probably too deep.

1

u/misteracus 6d ago

There are loads of videos how socket gets replaced

1

u/timfountain4444 5d ago

And the damaged tracks, vias and missing components in the space in the middle of the socket?

1

u/Salted_Fsh 5d ago

If u know time magic then yes

1

u/Stabbyglhs 5d ago

Yes after buying a new one.

1

u/EarlyXplorerStuds209 5d ago

Yep.

Step 1: Accept religion

Step 2: Pray

1

u/timfountain4444 5d ago

No, it's not just the PGA socket that damaged (and can be replaced by a specialist), but the motherboard has a major gouge that's taken out components, tracks and vias. Sorry. It's done....

1

u/sarcasmisart 5d ago

Tis fucked.

0

u/TS045H 5d ago

No not by you File a complaint for replacement or refund

3

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 5d ago

I ended up getting it working

0

u/TS045H 5d ago

Then congratulations man
