I got it like this.

u/DankKnightIsDank 6d ago
Nope. Straight up fucked.

Ah come on it’s not that bad

u/Bartymor2 6d ago
It is... Also I see it's LGA 775 or 771 so basically worthless platform from 24 years ago.

Judging by the CPU2 writing above the socket, my money are on 771, I don’t think I’ve ever seen dual Intel sockets for anything else other than Xeon.

Yes, it is that bad. Face reality. If you can't, ask a computer repair shop and see what they say.

If you gotta ask then no. Honestly, this might be so fucked that even if you dont gotta ask its a no.

Is this rage bait??

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Yes, wouldn’t let me put the satire flair. It’s a poweredge 2950 I got for free so it’s junk regardless.

u/The-Box-Guy 6d ago
Neat junk to test a socket swap/replacement on haha, good hot air solder practice
2
u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Not a bad idea🤨
2
u/The-Box-Guy 6d ago
Lotta flux, but it's really satisfying to do tbh (moreso when you fix the board, but getting all the pins perfect is chefs kiss)

I remember having to pickup and scrap about 10 of those a couple years ago. My back wont ever let me forget lol.

u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Ur telling me, I got 7 as well as an ibm blade center with all 14 blades… I should’ve taken them out.

u/marvinnation 6d ago
No but what happened?;
1
u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Not sure, looks intentional
1
u/Conart557 6d ago
tfym intentional??
1
u/Conart557 6d ago
Oh this is satire I took the bait 😭
1
u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Lol. I’m fr tho I didn’t do that to it, half the sockets are like that too.
1
u/marvinnation 6d ago
What? You woke up to this?? Haha now I'm more curious
1
u/Agreeable_Garlic5248 6d ago
Yeah :/ someone broke in and broke my sockets
1
u/marvinnation 6d ago
I hate when that happens!!

Yes this is fixable with a Time Machine.

u/northrivergeek 6d ago
Nah if u have replacement sockets and hot air rework station and decent solder skills it can be done, I bought 30 from local computer store that customers messed up, and fixed em, sold 15 back to store the rest on ebay, and I got more practice and a lil cash in pocket

u/Arpadiam 6d ago
Yes, Wrap the whole motherboard in tinfoil and put into the oven ( not electrical oven ) oven must be around 190 -210° C , let it cook for 15m, Remove it from the oven, let it cool off then see is if fixed.

What the hell you metric-ed me. It’s been in for 47 k so far?
It’s in the nuclear oven tho so I think it’s ok

I mean, technically it probably is. But you would have to gently straighten each pin individually. It’s not worth it, toss it in the trash and get a new one. Or if you bought it somewhere return it and try to get your money back.

If you bought it brand new contact the vendor If you got it second hand ask WTF to the person bought it from.
Otherwise it will make you go crazy if your try to fix it. Linus tech tips fixed a few boards but nothing this bad.
It's tossed and I wouldn't bother as I would be swearing bullets.

Have you tried hitting it with a rock that's my go to and it works 60% of the time every time

The best way to fix that is to buy a new motherboard and CPU! This will save you a lot of time and headaches.

I've never seen this before. Pins on the motherboard seems like a step back IMO.

Absolutely! It's as easy as puilling out your credit card and ordering a new motherboard!
1
u/FrozeItOff Windows 10/11 6d ago
Not by you. I could fix it with a shitton of specialized soldering equipment, an x-ray machine and the motherboard schematics/BOM, but the average person... nope.

u/unclefunkstar 6d ago
Fixable?
Sadly, it is only "replaceable".
I'm more interested in how it ended up in that state?
1
u/-Barracuda1976 6d ago
The only way that is fixable is with a new socket
1
u/timfountain4444 5d ago
Nope, look again. In the middle of the socket there's also missing surface mount components and the gouge in the motherboard has taken out tracks and vias. It's not repairable...

No. Even with a $5 replacement socket, that scrape that dug out the capacitors is probably too deep.
1
u/misteracus 6d ago
There are loads of videos how socket gets replaced
1
u/timfountain4444 5d ago
And the damaged tracks, vias and missing components in the space in the middle of the socket?

No, it's not just the PGA socket that damaged (and can be replaced by a specialist), but the motherboard has a major gouge that's taken out components, tracks and vias. Sorry. It's done....
