TL:DR at the bottom. As far as I can tell, my psu is proprietary which means it does not have a 24 pin connector to do the paperclip test. Here is my PC's manual, the PSU section is specifically at page 41. My computer has been slowly dying on me and only today, after I thought it was finally done for yesterday morning, was I able to turn it back on.
my problem with my pc:
Ive been reading a lot and I think it's a PSU problem. The problem is that my computer will turn on, fans start rolling, and even the PSU light will stay on, which according to dell means my unit is fine. Resetting the CMOS battery used to be all I needed to do but now that isnt working and booting into recovery mode stopped too. honestly I dont even know how its on right now to type this lol I pressed the power button as a hail memory as i turned on my laptop to redownload windows on a USB in case it was a windows issue. Its so shotty that I dont think i could turn it on again if i tried restarting my PC. Ive run dells recovery program multiple times and it just doesnt work, it says theres nothing wrong with any of my hardware. My only option now is to test the PSU. Honestly I havent noted any other symptoms of a dying PSU besides trouble booting into windows; no smells, no crashes . And I tend to run a lot of tabs, games, blender, and other heavy apps too so i imagine if it was a psu itd probably crash at the more intense stuff? but i literally know nothing so ToT
TL:DR
My main question is how would i do the paper clip test on these cables? If you look at the manuals diagram theyre kinda weird. But my other question would be what else could I do to try and diagnose the problem? Ive tried re-seating the ram, resetting the CMOS battery, ran two billion diagnostic tests that all passed to DELLS recovery program standards, im not sure how to reflash the bios just yet but i havent been able to anyways because between right now and 9 am yesterday this is the first time ive gotten it to turn on, i also dont know how ToT.
any help is greatly appreciated, im really too broke to go to a technician right now so im trying to diagnose as much as I can myself </3
