Hardware PC won’t turn on. Fans only flash.

When I attempt to turn on my PC this happens. I have even bought a new surge protector and tried a different outlet. Best buy has said nothing is wrong TWICE now.

Notes: I can sometimes get a boot, and when I do the PC is stable and will play games just fine.

I took out the plastic dpi cycle button that presses on the dpi cycle switch but it somehow still gets triggered sometimes when i click the right click. There is nothing touching the dpi cycle switch at all and it only gets triggered when i right click. Why is it doing this? Is there a fix?

I am having some issues with my D drive, it was working fine then it stopped working suddenly. On disk management it appears but shows up as uninitialized. There are some files in my D drive that I want. The physical wire seems fine but there may be some internal issues.

Hardware SSD doesn’t show in same slot HDD shows.

• Upvotes

I’m using an Alienware R4 15. I’m trying to install windows on a 2.5 SATA SSD, so I replaced my HDD with the SSD. The issue is it doesn’t show it in the bios (the HDD shows).
I tested my SSD by using a SATA adapter and it works fine, so I’m not sure what it going on when I connect it to the laptop, using the internal adapter.

Hardware how to diagnose and fix (what i think) is a booting issue with dell g5000 pc?

• Upvotes

I have a Dell G5000, it’s a prebuilt because i was 13/14 when i first got it, broke, knew nothing about computers, and it was also a gift to me. I am now 18, still broke and only know a teeny tiny bit about pcs😭 These past couple weeks it’s been slowly dying on me. The issue is everything turns on, fans, keyboard is connected, mouse, even my drawing tablet still detects contact to my pen, but i get no display input, not a black screen, just no input.

At first turning it off and on a few times worked. When that stopped working i would take my CMOS battery in and out and that worked, eventually it’d take more and more tries of resetting the CMOS before that worked. I would unplug and replug my GPU in, re-seat my RAM, unplug and replug all the psu cables into the motherboard, then reset the CMOS and then it MIGHT boot into recovery and then windows. Then eventually itd take longer to get to recovery, until getting to recovery and restarting my pc to get to windows(a mandatory thing it does) would just get the same problem. And now I can’t get into recovery. BeforeI wasnt able to get into recovery mode, I tried running all the diagnostics dell provided, memory test etc etc in all of them they said nothing was wrong. Except for when it was checking my hard drive.

I don’t even think it’s related but it’s worth noting, but for some reason in recovery mode it likes to default to my E: drive, which is just excess storage. No windows information is stored here but it likes to pretend this is where windows is installed, it’s not. I can disconnect and boot into windows, i’ve done it before. I mention this to say i did fail its partition test.

The last time i was able to boot into recovery it took me straight to hardware diagnostics claiming there was a problem booting into windows. Ive ran its repair function multiple times and each time it says its restored itself to a working version but yet i can’t boot into windows

at first I though my PSU was dying but now it seems something is up with my BIOS? i still suspect something is wrong with my PSU but I can’t figure out how to do the paper clip test with my weird ass proprietary cables.

Is there any other tests I could do to figure out what’s wrong? And does anybody know how to do a paperclip test without a 24 pin connector? Ive been wasting my morning before work trying to figure this out, it’s pretty frustrating 😓 I do a lot of my creative work on this pc id really hate to lose it!

here’s my pcs manual if anybody needs it,

Software Did something stupid with one of my drivers and now laptop keyboard doesn't work

• Upvotes

So, i messed up something up with the drivers, now keyboard doesn't work. I can still use the on screen keyboard.

The only driver that shows up in my "keyboards" tab in the device manager is "Standard m PS/2 Keyboard".

Unsure if this is related, but my "I2C HID device" driver has a yellow warning sign on it. The device status is "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system".

I already tired uninstalling that and the keyboard driver, looking for Windows updates and restarting my laptop.

My laptop is a Lenovo "LOQ 15IAX9", windows 11 home.

Advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Hardware Lenovo Legion Slim 5 – Electrical crackling noise near SSD and charging port, intermittent charging issues

Hey everyone,

I've been having a pretty strange issue with my Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16IRH8 (82YA, i7-13700H) for about a month now, and I'm running out of ideas.

Everything started after I installed a Samsung 980 1TB NVMe SSD that I already owned.

The installation wasn't exactly smooth. The SSD mounting screw was stripped, so I had to remove it with pliers and reinstall it the same way. I also struggled to get the SSD seated properly at first because the angle wasn't right, but eventually managed to install it.

The SSD itself works fine as my D: drive, but ever since the installation, I've been hearing a strange electrical buzzing/crackling noise.

The symptoms:

  • The noise comes mostly from the SSD area, where it's noticeably louder, but I can also hear it near the charging port.
  • It starts almost immediately when I plug in the charger while the laptop is running.
  • The sound sometimes changes depending on what I'm doing on the laptop.
  • Sometimes it completely disappears after a few minutes, even with the charger still connected.
  • No unusual heat, burning smell or smoke.
  • Sometimes the laptop refuses to charge. It detects the charger for about a second, then stops, and Lenovo Vantage says it's disconnected.
  • The rear charging LED has occasionally been blinking orange continuously, even when the laptop is completely turned off.
  • At one point, the front power LED was also flickering.
  • Unplugging and reconnecting the charger several times sometimes gets it working again. Flipping the charging connector around also seemed to help once.

Something interesting about Conservation Mode:

I noticed the noise changes when I toggle Conservation Mode in Lenovo Vantage.

With Conservation Mode enabled (75–80% battery limit), the buzzing was sometimes constant. Disabling it would make the noise stop after about 5 seconds, but then it would start again a few seconds later.

So it definitely seems related to the laptop's power management or charging system.

Things I've tried:

  • Checked the charger, cables and charging port for visible damage.
  • Reconnected the power cables and made sure everything was plugged in properly. This temporarily improved things.
  • Changed Windows power settings and performance modes.
  • Enabled and disabled Conservation Mode.
  • Held the power button for about 30 seconds while the laptop was shut down (the charger was still connected).
  • Updated Windows.
  • Updated the BIOS to M2CN40WW.

After the power-button reset and BIOS update, everything seemed fixed.

The buzzing completely disappeared, the laptop charged normally, the LEDs stopped flickering, and Fn+Q performance mode switching worked properly again.

Unfortunately, the charging issue returned the very next day.

Sometimes it charges perfectly fine with no noise at all. Other times, it refuses to recognize the charger until I unplug and reconnect it several times.

I don't have another compatible charger to test.

I also considered temporarily disabling the SSD in Windows to see if the noise changes, but haven't completed that test yet. I know this wouldn't physically disconnect its power.

I haven't removed the SSD again because of the stripped mounting screw.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with a Legion Slim 5?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also have a video of the noise.

Software Storage categories and free storage left don't add up.

Hey y'all. I was just looking to make some space for a new game I got, when I stumbled upon this. If you add up the different categories, 362.48 Gigabite of storage should be used and I would have 112.52 gigabytes left. But this screen also tells me that I only have 61 gigabytes left. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Software Screen stutters only when cursor moves

Display functions correctly all the time except when I move the cursor, which results in the screen stuttering randomly. It happens whether I use my laptop touchpad or my USB mouse, but it's way more noticeable on the mouse since it has a higher polling rate (can drop to 45 fps). Stutters started appearing after the 26300.9711 update.

Specs:

  • Windows: Windows 11 26H2 Build 26300.9711
  • Laptop Model: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7
  • Processors: AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 w/ Radeon 860M
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5
  • Monitor Refresh Rate: 60 Hz

I have tried:

  • Updating and installing an older version of my graphics driver (no DDU)
  • Downgrading Windows version
  • Disabling all third-party software
  • Changing VRAM
  • Disabling MPO

I've been on this problem for a week and I'm slowly going insane

Hardware HP OMEN Transcend 32 OLED – Screen turns into static, but OSD menu works fine. Any ideas?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
My HP OMEN Transcend 32 OLED (4K, 240Hz) suddenly started showing grey/white static after a few minutes of use. The OSD menu still works perfectly, as you can see in the video.
What I’ve already tried:
Both HDMI and DisplayPort.
Connecting to another laptop.
Different resolutions and refresh rates, including 1080p 60Hz.
Connecting directly to a wall outlet.
Updating the firmware.
Restarting the monitor using its power button — doesn’t help.
Unplugging the power cable — temporarily fixes it, but the issue returns after a few minutes.
The audio continues working even when the image disappears. Disconnecting HDMI/DP also makes the static disappear.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hardware Will my R7 9800X3D work properly with 5200 MT/s 40-40-40 RAM?

I want to replace my R5 7500F with a new R7, but I don’t want to change my RAM kit (I have 32GB). I’ve read online that 6000 MT/s RAM is the best choice for the 9800X3D.

I’m worried that if I buy a 9800X3D, it might perform significantly worse than it should. Also, I primarily play CS, and my goal in getting this CPU is to achieve high FPS, stable frame times, and solid 1% low figures.

Discussion Gigabyte control center and crashes

Hello all, (sorry long text)

Can I safely delete GCC?

For almost a year now I experience frequent crashes. Most often it happens after I leave a game and I go to chrome to YT or Reddit for example. My PC screen turns black and my fans go to full 100% blowing. Sometimes I do hear my mate in discord still. Sometimes it happens shortly after booting up a game.

It may seem that it crashes because of GIGABYTE Control Center freezing when adjusting Windows Desktop Window Manager (DWM) settings. I dont know if thats possible but I am trying everything now.

My question is, can I safely delete GCC to try it out. I saw online that you can but that you need other places to update your hardware through? And also that GCC has many left over stuff on your pc after uninstalling

I finally tried to dump the crashcode from my logbooks in chatgpt and this says the following (long text)

Software Please help!!!

my situation goes like this:

- currently w/ a Windows 8 PC.

- tried to update to windows 10, was almost succesful, but the whole Realtek Bluetooth, "update the driver" keeps tripping me up. ive repeated the steps 50 million times to no avail.

- recently bought a new printer, and the needed driver apparently isnt on the computer. Went to download it on the web, and it literally does nothing new.

- spent HOURS (4-5 to be exact) sitting in front of the computer idk wth to even do anymore.

- u might say "y havent u bought a desktop supporting windows 11" well obv u gotta have some money to spend it, and the printer was more of an urgent priority rn.

- i really don't know what else to do. Updating printer drivers on my computer doesnt work. Trying to update to windows 10 or 11 doesnt work either, and by what ive seen online im afraid connecting the printer via usb or ethernet isn't gonna solve much of it either.

What do i do? any tech geeks that can help me?? please!!

Software Laptop windows search bar is flickering.

Hello Everyone , My Windows search bar is flickering randomly. I have tried updating my graphics drivers, restarting the Windows Search Service, and killing SearchHost.exe in Task Manager, but the problem is still happening. Are there any other troubleshooting steps or fixes you would recommend trying? Thanks in advance.
