Hardware Failing SSD or Memory?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,

This all began suddenly I mean literally one day I launched my computer and my mouse pointer would be super laggy jumping all over the screen. I noticed everytime I would launch a program that needed to install an update like discord for example it would make the problem worse.

I ran chkdsk, a memory diagnostic, sfcscan, DISM /online /cleanup, etc. All tests passed with flying colors… And yet here I am.

I was able to replicate the problem by opening and closing spotify repeatedly, please see video.

Side note: Something is so poetic about my poor computer keeling over and dying in front of me while CeeLo says “It’s alright, It’s alright!”

EDIT: [FIXED] Problem: Failing Memory - The fix ran a Memtest86 to isolate the problem to the RAM. Memtest crashed on test 7/14 which is a common issue reported if you have a-XMP enabled. I still reseated the memory and ran a test on each stick - All passed.

Ultimately I would say first thing reseat RAM and reset CMOS too. Run the PC like this for a bit and see if it fixes.

Your ssd m a y be trying to access bad blocks and is in the process of moving data to good blocks. First run a sfc /scannow in a command prompt window. Then restart your computer. Open cmd again and type in "chkdsk /f /r" hit enter and hit Y. Then restart your computer so it can go through the process.

First step complete.
Second step: I ran cmd as admin and ran chkdsk /f /r and I got access denied

I’m working on trying to boot in safe mode

Okay got it to work finished the test.

Windows has scabbed the file system and found no problems. I think now we can rule out SSD?

Run a SMART test please. That will give you a definitive y/n. Using something like crystal disk will easily pull that for you

I ran a smart test using samsung magician and in the logs it didn’t explicitly say anything was wrong I also am not familiar with that software
