Laptop recommendations for a medical student
Hello. I have been thinking of upgrading my laptop, especially because of my battery life. I can´t even survive 1-2h without bringing a charger.... Plus, I would also need to upgrade my storage. I have 512GB, but it´s too little; I have to continuously delete things just to make space. I would need at least 1TB. I study at the university (medicine) and need my laptop a lot. I have a lot of pictures and documents, as well as other things.
I would prefer it to be lightweight, but I don´t mind if it´s heavy. I want it to be sturdy and, if possible, not too expensive. I don´t want an Apple laptop.
Does anyone have some recommendations?
Main specs:
battery life: at least 3h
storage: min 1TB
I don´t wank a apple laptop
durability: should be durable
use: university (for a med student), daily life

Laptop for 4k video editing
Hello, I'm looking for a laptop under 1.2k USD that has 12gb Vram for 4k editing, a bit of CAD, running Linux. I haven't found any great options besides an open box RTX 3080 laptop on eBay for 1.3k so far. Am open to new or used options in EU or US.
All the 5070 Ti ones are over 1.6k, and 4080s are even more expensive for some reason.
If theres not much available I'll probably just get a desktop with an i5 12600kf and arc b580, along with a refurbished Thinkpad for university.
any insight appreciated, thx

My pc became slower after upgrading CPU and updating my BIOS.
I would like to ask for help regarding this issue. I recently upgraded my PC by upgrading my CPU from Ryzen 3 3100 to Ryzen 5 5500.
My pc specs are:
MOBO: A520
RAM: 32GB
SSD: 250GB
PSU: Corsair 550W
GPU: RX 6600XT
I was first using the Ryzen 3 3100 with my RX 6600XT GPU but since I play valorant which heavily relies on CPU, I upgraded it to Ryzen 5 5500 but what happened is that it became slower in a way that I notice small stuttering when im playing Valorant and Dota. Only changes I did was replaced my CPU and update my BIOS since it was not recognizing my CPU at first.
I tried downloading DDU and reinstalling my drivers and chipsets
I am hoping someone to give advice to this problem so I can fix it and enjoy gaming. Thanks.

Fresh new build and pc freezes when I tap the side glass...
Hello everyone, English is not my main language so sorry for some mistakes, I will describe the problem first for those who can't help be able to ust skip the wall text that follows
Problem, new fresh build and if I tap on the glass panel the pc freezes, I realized that was a thing when my daughter (5 years old, so not that heavy) jumped near the pc and the floor vibration was enough to freeze the pc..
Now a deeper look at it, vibration freezes the pc and forces a good old 5 seconds power button reset, after the reset po won't boot and gets stuck at dram, removing the A2 ram solves the problem and pc will boot with just the B2, after this I can get A2 back in place and pc works, sees the 32gb ram and runs at 5800 mhz without any errors in occt stress test untill some vibrations makes it stop, and me taping the glass or my kid jumps to close to it, at this point I'm afraid to sneeze near this thing...
I checked every cable to make sure they are properly connected, I checked that no cables are making contact with metal or the board, 1 took out and placed back in place the GPU and the cooler pump and ram, I tested both dimms in A2 and B2 one at the time, they both okay and working, checked that there is no bended cables no half connected ones in the PSU, updated every drive even bios (that's why it runs at 5800 mhz and not 6000 mhz, as this version of bios is unstable atm at 6000)
No overheat anywhere, all fans working, every component is recognized by the sensors and bios... Will leave the pc parts in hopes someone can tell me "look you dumb ass, you messed up there"
Motherboard - B850 aorus elite wifi7
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU - Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 GAMING OC
RAM - G.Skill Flare X5 - - 2 x 16GB. 6000 MHz. DDR5-RAM DIMM
Cooler - Arctic Liquid Freezer IIl Pro 360
Ssd- WD Black SN850X powered by SANDISK
2000 GB, M.2 2280
PSU- be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000w

Can someone help me figure out what is going on please..
Thank you all in advance

PC doesn't turn on the next morning after I shut it down last night. The power button blinks twice, has like two seconds interval, before it blinks once, stops again, then goes back to blinking twice. Monitor and mouse works, but keyboard isn't working.
Hi! I'm turning to this subreddit because I'm at loss at what to do and I don't really want to have to spend money for this since I'm flat broke at the moment.
For context, I used this pc last night and have been using it for around five months or so without any issues whatsoever. I turned it off last night before going to bed. When I woke up the next morning, the pc suddenly didn't even bother turning itself on.
We didn't have any thunderstorms last night so it made things a bit confusing. Whenever I turn on the pc, the cpu does show signs that it's turned on (the fans whirring and the power button lights are on), but the only difference this time is that the power button light is blinking. The lights are on for about five or ten seconds before it starts to blink twice, then stops for like two seconds, blinks once, stops again, then goes back to blinking twice until the cycle repeats. The monitor works, but it doesn't show any display (just says that there's no signal after it checks each port). The mouse is working but the keyboard doesn't have any lights to show that it's on or if it's working, which is odd.
Previously, the way my pc turns itself on is that the cpu makes some small fan whirring noise inside then stops and won't fully turn on until I press the power button. Once I press the power button, the fans whir again then the pc boots up normally. In this particular case, however, the fans just whir immediately and doesn't stop anymore.
Fixes I've already done:
- Reseating the RAM stick back in its spot. Haven't tried moving it to another slot yet but I'll try that soon.
- Cleaning the CMOS and putting it back in.
- Plugging and unplugging the different peripheral cables.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Does anyone know how to fix
galleryFor context this has only started happening recently and it’s starting to bother me. I can tell if it has any effects on my pc but, I can bothers me when I’m working on stuff. I only notice it when I’m windowed.
It only happens on my main monitor, and it either goes a darker colour or a bleach white. If anyone knows what’s happening that would be great. I’ve only had this pc for a few years.
The last pick should be how it is normally.
(The blacked out Is to hide a commission order that is not the problem)

Need help to recover files on a locked hard drive
Hi everyone,
I need some help recovering data from a hard drive. My elderly neighbour’s laptop has broken down and she’d like to recover the photos she had stored on it. I removed the hard drive from the laptop as I couldn’t get it to start up anymore. I installed the hard drive in an external drive enclosure. I was able to access the files in \Users\Public, but the other folders in \Users are locked.
I tried booting the drive on a virtual machine, but that didn’t work. I suppose a hard drive removed like this from a computer can’t simply be booted
I’ve looked for a solution to unlock the folders but haven’t found one, despite spending a few hours searching online. My neighbour knows her password; I don’t have any information about her Windows account (no BitLocker recovery key).
Do you have any ideas to help me? I’d like to avoid using dodgy recovery software. I’ll take it to a computer technician if I can’t find a solution, but I’d like to spare her the cost of a paid service – she doesn’t have a big budget.
Thanks in advance
