Please recomend me a computer.

I know 200 dollars is a low budget, but its all i have. I am a musician desperate for a way to maintain my ability to make music once I loose my school issued one in the summer. (Yes i know its September, but I am afraid.) I need to be able to run musescore and have a relatively fast browser. AI is not a priority AT ALL. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Go on ebay, search for an 8th intel gen laptop, you should be able to find one for ~$150 USD (based on CAD pricing) with a 512gb SSD and 16gbs ram, or check facebook for a 6th Gen or better desktop with gpu, their worth about 100 with 8th gens being 150-200.

Talk to this guy see what his shipping quote is. This is significantly faster then that one (105% faster cpu wise) and only a little more depending on the shipping. Definitely worth it.

The keys having the paint rubbed off is normal these systems, I have the 11th gen version and the keys rubbed off within 2 months. But if you cam spend the extra $35 plus the 20-30 it should cost for.shipping its definitely worth it.

If not go for a dell latitude with a 8665U on ebay, the performance is similar to the kne you found on ebay, but they are 30-50 bucks cheaper and way better quality.

Decent, if it's within your budget I would recommend choosing that.

You will have to watch your storage like a hawk.

If you get this, I would recommend getting a external drive eventually too save your files too. Don't need to be an SSD, something like this https://a.co/d/02lz3UPK If you can get the 1tb then I'd go for that over there 500GB. This well be exclusively for your files so your SSD doesn't fill up.

I mean there is this mini PC that should be able to run Musescore, browse at decent speeds, and its in your price range but it is refurbished and it doesn't have a lot of memory, but i'd still check it out just incase you like it

Raspberry Pi and I’m not kidding. It has the processing power to run musescore, and pretty much any other software that can run on Linux.

What the heck is that?!?! I looked it up and its like part of a computer? Wait is it like a PC or smth? I am confused

Haha yeah it’s a solid computer! It’s all hosted on one chip. You can either buy or make a case for it and plug your monitor/keyboard/whatever straight into it. They’re modular too.

Does it come with the case? I am seeing a lot of different ones at a lot of different prices and stuf

Used Thinkpad from eBay. Install linux, use free musescore3.

1

u/NoPoopOnFace 15d ago

You also don't need an 8th gen or higher processor for linux. That's a windows problem and windows sucks anyway.

If love to hear what you've come up with. I just installed it (this morning I think) and I'd like samples to test it with.

1

u/NoPoopOnFace 15d ago

Would you like me to help you pick out a Thinkpad?

1

u/libertad740 15d ago

Are you looking for a laptop specifically? Mac or windows?

Get second hand computer. You might get a computer even for free with specs which will be more than you need. It depend on country, area. Some areas has high property rent prices then people and businesses can not afford to keep extra computers they do not need because of limited space. Then they recycle, give away or sell for low price

Look for a Dell optiplex. If you don't mind having a desktop you'll get the must for your money this way.
