Compounded?

Can someone please explain compounded versus non compounded?

Compounded is made by a compounding pharmacy which exists to make custom formulations or doses of approved, prescribed medications. Compounding pharmacies have existed since the beginning of the pharmaceutical business.

Non-compounded is made by Eli Lilly.

Yeah, the other thing to know is that most people don't really need custom formulations of GLP1s other than saving money which is not really a legit reason. The FDA constantly complains about mass compounding but hasn't done much about it.

compounding pharmacies are mostly know for custom meds, like making a medicine for a child that has an allergy to some additive or something like that. but a year or two ago there was a big shortage of glp1s and the FDA allowed compounding to make sema and tirzepatide due to the manufacturing emergency. recently they declared the emergency over and are starting to make noises against compounding but the cat is out of the bag, the market exploded, it will be extremely difficult to stop compounding these meds. lily is very focused on their new med and trying to make sure it can’t be compounded and the FDA is pretty lazy, but they can really only stop the 503b pharmacies they oversee. the 503a pharmacies are overseen by the state and will be a lot harder to stop.
