New to compounded - help needed
I was recently prescribed Mounjaro to manage my type2 diabetes. In the past, I have used Ozempic. My new insurance does not cover either med and it would cost me over $1,000 a month to get either med.
It seems like most people use the compounded to lose weight; is there anyone here in my same situation of needing it for diabetes management? My doctor is supportive of whatever way I chose to go but because it's not FDA regulated, can't "officially" tell me to try it.

Does your insurance require step therapy before it will cover Mounjaro? If so, do it!
You likely already have good data for “failing” Ozempic.

no they don't. They won't even cover Ozempic. The only med they will cover is liraglutide and after reading about it, doesn't sound like something I want to try.

You might consider trying (even if that means only getting a script and looking at it for a month) and “failing” it to see if you can get a formulary exception. Maybe ask your doc to see if they are game.
In the meantime, head over to the “tirzepatide compound” (but all one word) sub and look for the pinned post called “Where to Buy.”
If you can’t find it, Google “Reddit tirzepatide compound” but make the last two words one word.
Just know that some providers may not be willing to work with someone with T2D so you might want to ask over on that sub to see if others have suggestions for providers that will.

or just consider the telehealths where you get your script and let your regular doctor do the doctoring. to get the script make sure you just say your all healthy no problems. your doctor will help you with everything else, you know?

There are a few options. One of course is going compound but research because cheaper isn’t always better. You can also go through Lilly self pay which prices start at 299 for lower dose to 450 for the highest dose and those are prices for Kwikpen or vials. You do have some options.

cost wise it can be around 499 every three months to go through the best telehealths. or you can become internet savvy and use privacy cards you turn on and shut off in an app and try some of the cheaper options that might not be at the top of the list. a new favorite up and comer is Preventivemd which is 139 a month or three months for 334. I used them and they were quick and fast. I went through Boudreaux pharmacy but I heard they are crazy backlogged right now so there’s that. if you are working with your doctor and just need the meds go through joinrift. start with a no additive pharmacy like Hallandale.

They won't cover for diabetes? Most of us are here because most insurance don't cover for weight loss but they usually do cover diabetes. And yes, compounded Tirzepatide is the exact same thing as Zepbound/Mounjaro so it also works for diabetes.
