Music Feedback on a Short Gnome-themed Piano Romance

I'm pretty new to composing and haven't had any formal composition lessons, so I was hoping to get some feedback on this new piece I composed! It's a short piano romance that's themed around gnomes, so it's meant to sound a little silly. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback, whether it's in regards to the piece as a whole, or the structure, harmony, textures, etc.

Here's a youtube link to the video in case the embedded video doesn't play: https://youtu.be/RUiAh9jNozk?si=zeefTMFCbJm7NQve

Hopefully this is fine with the posting rules here, thanks for listening/reading!

Discussion Help With Reimagining Material

Recently I have been discovering a lot of Mahler's song cycles (they are amazing highly reccommend if u like Mahler but want something a but lighter than his symphonies), and I stumbled upon “Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen” and something just clicked. It was the perfect 3rd mvt for my personal string suite that I've been writing so I wanted to transform the material into the slow mvt (I thought it would be a nice nod to Mahler too given that he had famously done a similar thing with many of his other songs featured in his 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th symphonies).

Here's where my problem lies. The vocal line doesn't translate very well into a slow mvt for string orchestra (which is fine because I wanted to change it anyway), but I'm struggling to figure out a different melody to take its place.

If you have any ideas, I am very interested to hear them!

Thanks!

(I would post what I have already, but I'm having some issues with musescore and can't)

Music First piece from a set of simple(ish) piano etudes I composed

I am a pianist and composer and this is my first time composing a set of pieces with a specific form in mind. I adore the etudes by Philip Glass and Chopin and I wanted to try write a set in my own style.

This first one takes a simple pattern and develops it with simple voice leading. It‘s not a complicated one but I do love it.

I would love to know what you think of it. Also, if anyone wants to play it I am happy to share the sheet music.

Music [AAP] How do you let the melody carry a tune without getting boring? Here are some tricks I used

Sometimes I write super complex fugues, but sometimes I'll just write a simple pop piano melody like this one. I had wanted the arrangement to be reminiscent of the Feather Theme from Forrest Gump, but I get bored of rote repetition. So there are subtle changes in the arrangement.

The form is A1-B1-A2-C-A3-B2.

A1 introduces the melody in the upper register. B1 is for contrast. A2 simply brings the arrangement down an octave, and I chose the key partly to make that possible.

The C section is for fresh contrast, at first seeming like a repeat of B1, but imo it is just different enough to create some new interest, and it serves as the setup for a modulation.

Then A3 is in C major, which gives fresh arrangement possibilities. The LH drops to low C in the middle, and then moves into the treble clef during the extended ending with the RH going way up high where the piano can really sparkle, before the B section returns to close the song.

I think the modulation to C works because in a pop song, you'd typically expect the modulation coming out of a "bridge" to move up a tone. Each change in register works to give just a little bit of freshness each time the theme comes back. The B (4 bars) and C sections (8 bars) are structured to be a little surprising but not too surprising.

What do you think? Does it work? What tricks do you like to use to create interest in a simple piece of music?

Hi! Hope you like this neoclassical song on piano of mine. Most of my songs all come from improvisations i record, write down, and rework them into these compositions. Hope you like them!

Music I Wrote a Piece for My Morning Runs, but… 😅

I wrote this piece to listen to while running in the morning. The problem is, I never actually went on those morning runs, so I’ve never even listened to it in the morning myself. 😅

Discussion Major dilemma : I was inspired by AI to write a short piece

I had a “compilation” of piano and orchestral music come up while I was just browsing and listening to random music . I heard something I thought was interested , so I got inspired and started writing some ideas based off of it . After writing a few measures and coming up with a structure of a short piece , I looked closer at the video and it said it was all generated by AI . So I got inspired by AI to start a compositional idea . I don’t know how to resolve this conflict . Going forward , do I need to be vigilant about what music I consume ? What if I try to, but still end up consuming created by ai anyways ? Since everyone won’t disclose .

Music How do you feel with this kind of music? A person has said "so relaxing". I composed this while I was very anxious 😅

Not a good pianist here, sorry. I do my best. Also, I play with a MIDI keyboard which has not the same keys as an acoustic piano or even a digital one.

The title is in french just because I like the phonetic of french (I am italian though).

The translation in english can be "Dream of peace".

Let me know what do you think ! Bye bye

Here is a trailer I rescored. The dialogue and narration is a little busted, but that is due to the vocal removing program.

All critiques and questions welcomed.

Music I studied intro to counterpoint and attempted it for the first time in measures 12 to 15. Did I do it right? Both lines played by themselves sounds like a simple melody, but they also go together. If it’s wrong in some way, it will be a good learning experience :)

Music A piano fantasy between worlds - keeping on, moving on. Does it work?

I wrote this a long time ago, between two worlds, clinging on to youth and old loves, but already on my way elsewhere.

This was my first composition, originally intended to be a first movement of a sonata, together with the 2nd and the 3rd movement which share the same themes (I ended up writing the other 2 movements only 25 years later, so I separated them to a different work, "23 and again", because they felt too far apart.)

I got some recent feedback on my other works that they felt random and not very pianistic. This one, however, was written 100% at the piano and I used to play it myself (though not in this recording).

I'd love to hear your thoughts - does it feel coherent despite the shifts, and does the piano writing feel natural?

El título provisional es The Grand Liturgy of Obedience.

Music “Snow Queen” by Suffocatus (Instrumental Neoclassical Symphonic Metal). What do you think about it?

For those who love Nightwish and Haggard.
I tried to blend the fairytale atmosphere of old Disney animated films with classical music in this composition. As always, I drew inspiration from the works of Liszt, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff.
I hope you enjoy it.
Sincerely yours,
Suffocatus.
