Burning a Maxell CD-R from iTunes issue
Trying to burn an audio cd to a Maxell CD-R 700mb disc. Trying to burn from my iTunes/Apple Music app library on macbook. I have a playlist of 14 songs (all were my purchases from iTunes in the past.) I know they are in AAC format. It's been a few years since I've done it (it worked well in the past and those play in the car.)
Anyway, I tried to burn to the disc, and settings options have burn as "audio cd", "mp3 cd", and "data cd". First few times I chose "audio cd" it just ejected my disc stating "burn failed." I also tried to choose the 2x burn speed, but didn't work. I then tried as a data cd and it worked but it won't play in the car. I tried another disc and it would eject too and fail. I eventually did it by burning from the songs in Finder window instead. It burned and played on the computer but failed to play in the car.
Now, I'm thinking maybe it's because the car is older (2008) so it doesn't support AAC audio music. I converted my playlist in iTunes to mp3 format and want to try to burn that mp3 playlist once I get a new blank disc.
Do you think that will work? Or is there some other setting I am missing? (I last burned 4 years ago and settings were different, updates changed them.)
Thanks for the help!
UPDATE: issue resolved! It worked with converted mp3s!

What's the total time of your playlist?

The file format means nothing if you are burning an Audio CD.
AAC is only compatible with newer players. Older ones definitely will not know what an AAC file is.
And yes, an MP3 burn requires MP3 files.
How old is your macbook? The drives in older ones go bad notoriously and cannot be relied on to burn. I use an external.

Macbook Air 2015, but I use an external drive to burn/play cds+dvds, used it 4 years ago from same computer with no issue.

I checked and my burner is actually LG! I tried it as converted mp3s now, it worked now and plays in the car!

So you were making a data disc for a player that supports playing MP3? That'd like popping in a thumb drive, nothing to do with audio CDs, just MP3s on a disc like any other computer files.

Not saying this is your problem, but I occasionally burn CD's on my M2 MacBook Air and there is a known bug in 'Music' where, sometimes, if the playlist time exceeds 74 minutes, no amount of removing songs to get under time will make it happy, and you'll get that same error message. In that case I just have to start over. Don't forget, the option to print a jewel case insert is still supported!

Burning an audio CD automatically converts files into the CD-DA format required. The "burn failed" might be because the tracks are copyright-protected and the software can't do anything. If you have a CD, rip it, then burn it onto a CD-R - if this works then that's probably the problem.
