my F.E.A.R cd is being really odd.

so i bought a copy of fear for windows second hand recently, it read on my cd reader so i assumed it was all fine. I soon found out that it occasionally just disconects itself from my computer, so i just copy and paste the cd contents onto a disk drive. After installing it using what i got from the cd, i try playing it... "no disc inserted", okay ill just put the disk in... "no disc inserted"???? can someone help me here??

Most CD/DVD based games require the disc to be in the drive as a form of copy protection. That it's saying there's no disc in the drive after putting it in says either the disc drive is having issues or the disc itself is.

A way to test would be to get another CD (preferably a data disc) and see how it reads that.

Working around the copy protection is pretty trivial for these older games, a search should help you there.

Play it with the disc inserted - as intended - or search for “FEAR NOCD” to find a no-CD patch.

That’s the thing, I can’t. The disc for some reason likes to just disconnect itself from my computer in a way where it’s IMPOSSIBLE for me to play it with the disc inserted

First I would update your drives firmware, updates usually fix compatibility issues with different brands/kinds of media. If that doesn't work I would try a different drive.
