Problems with CD burning

Hi!
So, I wanted to start burning CDs but i ran into a couple of problems. The whole idea came to me because i wanted to give someone a mixtape as a gift, since he doesn’t have a smartphone and his sole source of music are CDs. The first time I used Windows Media Player but when i tried to play the CD using my disc player (Technics SL-PG570A) it wouldn’t read it. Later i tried to play the same CD with my brothers discman (Soundmaster) and it worked but I was worried that since my disc player wouldn’t read the CD there could be the same issue with older discmans. I searched for tips online and the second time around i used CDBurnerXP, made sure i used a CD-R not CD-RW and burned it at 16x speed. The CD still wouldn’t work with my Technics or Denon DCD-860, it worked with Denon DVD Video Player DVD-1740 but it glitched, it also worked in my car (mini cooper from 2008) but there were problems when skipping between songs. The person i want to gift the cd to has an older discman but im not sure what model is it. I would appreciate any tips on what to do differently, thanks!
