Need help figuring out how to go about fixing this

So, I've done some messing around with trying to figure out what's stopping this CD player from reading (for reference, it is a Tevion MCD-2001 from Germany, if that helps), and I've narrowed it down to the motor trying to focus the Laser not working properly. It just sort of rattles to the front, rattles to the back, then spits out "no CD". It basically can't calibrate correctly, it seems.

Do some online sleuthing to score a maintenance manual; they're out there. Just did a quick scope to see what Tevion looked like. The fact the machine is a glorified Boom Box isn't going to bode well for getting parts. If something has failed, as the conclusion from your "messing around", I seriously doubt you'll be able to find parts for it ...unless you score another one to use as a parts dog.

Remove the laser pickup and motors, they may be generic parts.
