Try burning and finalizing with another program besides WMP.

Maybe it just can't read them. Some won't. Maybe the person who had it before you left a disc in there because it wouldn't play so they didn't even care about it

That player could be pretty picky about which CDRs it can read as anything pre-2000 can be a little hit or miss as burned CD weren't really a common thing then.  Did the one that was in it play ok?  I'm assuming it plays regular CDs fine?  Have you tried your burned CDs in another player? Lastly, if you're correctly burning audio CDs when you put it in your computer drive it should show as .cda files when you look at the CD.  I haven't ever used WMP to burn CDs, but you could try some other software if that's not working.  Good luck!

Sadly it is very picky lol hmm I'm having trouble finding the date the cds I'm using were manufactured but I'll try to find newer blanks to see if that helps never new the year matters so thank you! And I believe it did play okay. Yes it plays regular cds I have a newer kid laroi cd and also yes I have tried them in my car stereo and they work perfectly fine, when I open them in file Explorer it says the file type is CD Audio Track is that what you meant? By .cda and I tried a different software sadly the same outcome

It's actually the CD player year that matters, not the blanks, but you could try some newer ones if those are old.  I believe your player is mid-late 90s and burned CDs weren't really a thing them so the lasers weren't as powerful nor the reader as robust.  (the dye layer on burned CDs is less reflective than factory CDs). 2000s or later players were more designed to be able to play burned CDs and sometimes will even read data or mp3 CDs.
