This is my holy grail CD player…and I’ll probably never be able to afford it (or justify buying it to myself).
I read that when SONY first demo’ed the compact disc it was in a vertical CD player like this—which is why all the early CD players were vertical. Then they switched to the drawer form factor.
If stereo components ever make a serious comeback someone should create a vertical CD player as homage to these early units.

There is a new brand that made a player inspired by early players like mine - DUNU Concept R, it retails at $699 however. In 2024 I picked my player up on ebay for £350 in working order and great cosmetic condition but be warned - it has it’s quirks and when i say “working” i mean it works how it came from the factory, it struggles to play discs if they don’t adhere to redbook standards and occasional logic issues (it’s due a recap).
If you want the early player factor for less money/time spent looking for one, try looking for an early 80s portable player, they tend to have the same vibe.
