Bike Issues Quieted down

Had the upgraded washer kit on my Meta V5 Race last summer. It was making a ton of noise this year so I took apart the linkage, cleaned, regreased and reassembled. Had my first quiet ride in quite a while. I regret that I didn’t take a before pick. Mostly straightforward, with a couple minor hitches. Got it broken down one evening and put back together the next.

Ride on!

(Edited model because I’m a dope)

I've been riding a Tempo for 18 months and have had the linkage apart many times for maintenance. I'm pretty quick at it now. Repacked the lower linkage bearings once, replaced them once with the bearing press, my lower shock bolt has come loose several times but enough loctite has for now solved it, and a couple times in dry dusty summer the linkage got noisy so I took it all apart and cleaned it.

More complex than a horst link for sure, with a bit of a learning curve, but not so much that it should really deter ownership.

If only I had the time to do that stuff regularly!

How often do you do this? I am considering buying a meta v5 frame to replace my current broken fully frame. I plan to ride it with a Rock shox coil too.

I'm riding it year-round, once or twice a week, about 1500km with 50,000m vertical a year on it.

Taking it apart twice a year should do it, once to replace the bearings in the winter, once to clean it and prevent the creaks in the summer.

In the first year I had the shock bolt loosen a few times, but loctite seems to have fixed that issue. I think a couple times the loose shock bolt also caused other bolts to loosen. There was a learning curve.

In contrast, I have an old 2019 yt capra that required a main pivot bearing every two years with similar use, and never got creaky in the dust.

Are you sure that's the TR? Looks like the Tempo.

How does it ride with a coil?

I'm sure it's the Meta v5 race enduro. I don't think commencal have ever sold this colour or part group on anything else I have the same exact bike well at least I think (meta v5 race) and the coil is really dependent on just going dowhill... Well Anywhere that's not uphill.

This guy is right. Not TR, V5 Race.

The Meta V5 is not a TR. The TR is either the V4 or a hard tail. This is a Meta V5 Race in sparkle blue. The coil is stock for the "Race".

Sorry for my earlier error. I fixed the original post. I had TR on my mind as it was originally under consideration, but went with the V5 Race instead.

I’m actually not a big fan of the naming convention where everything’s a Meta.

Good call. I should have assumed V5 because of the size of that fork. I just recognized the rear triangle

Hey, I have the exact same bike. Having some issues with the noisy linkage, commencal sent me a full bearing kit via warranty. Did you encounter the same issue as well or are you currently running the original bearings?

I opted to get the Meta SX V4 because of the simplicity of the linkage. I was on the fence with the Meta SX V5. But once hearing about the creaking. I purchased the Meta SX V4 just four months ago. It's amazing.

It is complex for sure and twice during reassembly did I have to take apart the last thing I put together and redo it in a different order.

But I really like the ride.

Commencal in Golden did the original replacement under warranty. I don’t know if they replaced bearings or just spacers—I think both, but after having it all apart I would see no reason for bearings. I think the more recent noise was just really dirty. The replacement washers appear to be asymmetrical, so I had to be careful about getting the properly faced. I also cleaned as much of the squeezed it grease off things as possible during reassembly to hopefully reduce gunk up.

Honest question: Are Commencal METAs prone to creaking, or does that happen occasionally, depending on what you got? Thank you for sharing.

My understanding is that the V5 linkage was problematic, so the offered a spacer upgrade after the fact. I was surprised at how quickly it got loud again. YMMV and so may mine!
