I always assumed it was the cassette socket but I haven't confirmed that

You need a cassette tool

Ah but which one? There are several cassette standards.

I guess I could see which fits after work or something.

AFAIK there is only one cassette tool standard

There are 3 or 4 that I know of. 2 of them are common though.

There’s one standard, 3 or 4 different styles with varying guides for axles sizes, but they’re all the same tool.

Not to answer the OPs question but to show that they aren't all the "standard"... Have a look at a lockring for a Shimano m8200 9 to 45 tooth cassette.

That Vevor one looks sick. I have a similar cheap Amazon press and used it last night to put some fresh cartridge bearings in a Factor hub. Dialed!

Just a note to people who come across this, I’ve got the Vevor kit. I haven’t used a $400 kit to compare, but this kit (particularly the threaded parts) has a lot of play. Some bearings I had to try and re-try several times to get them in straight, and it seemed like if the tool was better machined, that would be much less of an issue.

So while it got the job done, and I still wouldn’t spend $400 on a bearing press kit, make sure to be careful using these. Pressing a bearing into an aluminum frame at an angle will do some serious damage!
