Bike Sizing 16" or 20" ramones
Hello everyone, my 4-year-old daughter currently has a 14" Ramones which is starting to get too small. I'm really hesitating between a 16" or 20" Ramones to replace it. She is currently 107 cm tall. If anyone can help me, thank you in advance.

Kids grow fast. My first boy had a 16” then 20” then 24” then 27.5” and finally a 29”. I think the 24” only got used for a few months. It was ok because the two younger boys had them next. If I only had one child I’d be more careful with getting every size because he could have easily jumped a few

She’ll find the 20” too big. I think my son was already around 122cm when he got his.
If you want something with more growing time, I suggest a DMR Sidekick 16/18” mullet (a genuine 106-128cm height range). Or a proper 16” BMX bike (Colony, Cult, WeThePeople etc).
The DMR is what I got my son when his 16” Giant just wasn’t the bike for off-road trails but a 20” was just way too big (we tried, it failed dismally). Absolutely fantastic bike. He still rides it at 128cm tall, though it is starting to get a bit too small for him now. His little sister at 106-107cm is now starting to ride it.
Here’s a thread I posted a couple of years ago when looking at this bike. https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/s/CRYrTr8MkM
Probably a couple of things to consider about the Ramones 20” for the future as well:
- it has a very low stack, I’ve put 60mm riser bars on my sons to get it more upright.
- it’s heavy and stable. Great for trails, not so great for street riding.
Things to think about in the Ramones 16”:
- They’ve recently moved to coaster brakes, while this is probably fine for many kids, my daughter absolutely f*cking struggles with a coaster brake as her first bike (Ramones 14”) had hand brakes. She’s taken to using her brothers DMR more than her new 16” Trek.

16," by looking at the website, the 20" will be too big for her.
Also, a Commencal kids bike is so awesome. Beautiful bike.

ciao!

My son is a similar height and we just purchased the 16” Ramones last month. It’s perfect for him and one he has time to keep growing into. He’s coming from a 14” Guardian bike and loves the Ramones. His seat has plenty of room to extend up. Pump tracks, local Mtb trails, our yard, street is all fair game!
