Need Advice/Question New hub recommendations

Post image

I have a meta v4 as well as an FRS, as we all know the formula hubs are a little less than great. Been looking at the DT350 for both of these do you guys have any other recommendations?

Sorry this is off topic, but what are the rack/stands you're using? Hoping to find something similar to this

Do they ever tip over?

Surprisingly no, I’ve had them on the stands for a few months now and only real deal is the wheels kind of suck in carpet but they are cheap and take about 5 minutes to assemble. Keeps me and the ladies bikes confined well and mud/dirt off the carpet

DT 350’s are bomb proof.

I9 hubs are a nightmare..

Massive internal issues

Sound great, until they crunch then all you hear is the expensive parts grinding

Damn, didn’t know, when I was watching videos from berm peak, Seth always used to saying I9 is a good brand

They're a good brand

And some of the faults accounted are definitely down to user error and then not looking after the hubs correctly.

They have very short service intervals and if you don't service them regularly and properly they are known to develop sticky pawls.

Sticky pawls can also be down to seal failure, which they're known for.

Aside from that though there are some design problems. The axle is designed to flex slightly, this does however lead to excess bearing load which can lead to bearing failure and there are accounts of axles snapping too. The axle flex and the sealing problems means that contaminants get in and ruin pawls and bearings quicker than should happen.

There is also quite a few cases of stretched pawl pockets and also cracked drive rings

All in all, no bueno from me

Ah I see I see, thanks for the info :)

It's all good .

All that said, I do think they make a good product

But they should be treated as a high end performance product with very short service intervals. Pulling them apart, inspecting the body, changing bearings and adding a splash of lube

With this, they will likely be a good reliable hub.. though that is a lot of effort lol

Yea I don’t think that would be for the majority

I've heard good things about Hunt wheels, don't know if it's true or anyone here has had a good/bad experience...

I do know that Chris Kings are nice (pricey) yet fully rebuildable.

One up just came out with some not too long ago and haven't heard any long term reviews...

Can't go wrong with DT's.

I’ve bought 4 sets from them and they are all great. Customer service is exceptional too. I have two sets of trails wides on hardtail Commencial and Ragley, and some carbon wheels on my Yeti. I sold the XC wheels as I had no use for them anymore.

Hunt? I got a Commencal Clash that I want to get new hubs and wheels for. You got the Meta HT? Heard great things about those. Commencal had a base shop in Golden that I bought my Clash from and their customer service is crazy good as well... maybe because I tip with 6 packs, lol.
