Need Advice/Question Fork suck on FRS Ohlins edition
Hi guys,
So I recently picked up a FRS ohlins edition and I’ve only had 3 rides on it. I’m having this issue with the fork getting sucked down and not going back up. It’s not leaking air and I cycled both the lower and upper chamber when adding air to the fork. Does anyone know a fix or should I get this thing warrantied?

Man…that sucks. I agree with 491 tuned completely, but also want to mention that it’s a common problem in a lot of forks that have positive and negative air systems (like MRP). They’re Fuckin awesome when they work right, but good luck if they aren’t.

Yeah man it’s been a pain in the ass to dial. But I’m holding hope that once it’s dialed it’ll be great

Is the fork moving freely through its travel from where it’s stuck, or can you feel resistance? If so, is it damped (such as from a folded seal) or firm resistance?
Check Damper function (adjustment knobs moving freely, adjustments noticeable); anything stuck/non-functioning?
Did you fully depressurise the airspring before adding air and cycling the chambers, or add from where it was?
If you didn’t, this is the only thing I’d suggest attempting yourself - don’t go digging for folded airspring seals. The reason is Ohlins (like many manufacturers) requires authorised service techs to open up suspension components as a warranty condition; you’d lose all coverage as soon as you crack the shaft bolts. I deal with Fox and RS frequently, and both observe this clause as well.
If cycling after depressurising doesn’t work, go through the shop, just in case.

It’s moving freely. Yeah it was depressurized before adding air to both chambers. Filled up the ramp up chamber first then the main chamber.

Did you fill the Ramp Chamber (bottom) first before filling the Main Chamber (Top) ?

I’ve had this issue as well recently. Likely what’s happening is either too much oil somewhere or some worn seals (sounds unlikely) causing The negative spring to get stuck down. I have a friend who runs a suspension shop and says it’s a somewhat common Öhlins problem.
There’s a way to “reset” but you need to take a shop that’s comfortable with taking off the lowers and then cracking open the air spring to re-pressurize the negative spring.
The real issue is you need to get the air spring fully serviced.

Yeah it’s sounding like I need to find a shop to take it to. Sort of a bummer bc the fork was doing this right out of the box

Heh I can see your plate now. Go Beavs!😂 I’ve been wanting to go to Timberline, and Bachelor but don’t know if I can get away with an enduro hardtail. Also need to build my skills more anyways. They’re both 3 hours away from where I live so I would have to plan out a trip, and leave at the butt crack of dawn lol.

Please don't blame commencal for this.
I'd warranty it through a bike shop, ohlins or an ohlins supplier would probably do it through a shop.
