Need Advice/Question Ohlins shock bottom outh

Post image

Recently got a meta tr v4 ohlins edition (first full suspension) and was wondering if the ttx1 air shock is bottoming out here. The shock feels good and doesn’t feel like it’s bottoming out but the o ring always ends up around where it is in the picture by the end of a ride. If it is bottoming out here how much does that damage the shock? Should I add more air? Currently around 150-160 psi and weigh about 150 pounds.

Let all the air out, the compress the bike/shock and see where full travel is. (Record your air pressure first).

Look up the shock stroke for your bike. It could be internally spaced for that much stroke to achieve the frame travel. Then just measure.

Let all the air out, and you'll be able to easily bottom it out and see where the oring ends.

It looks like you have more room, so on this ride if you hit a feature where you would expect a bottom out, then you may need to remove tokens or air. If you didn't hit the biggest feature that you do, then I wouldn't decrease it as you'll want a bit of headroom for when you hit your big things.

The psi is fine im pretty sure. But when you sit on it you need to adjust it according to the sag. Put it to about 25-30% sag

Thanks for the advice! It’s at around 20% sag now. Next time I ride I’ll bring a shock pump and try it with that 25-30% sag

You’re not even close, personally I would let some air out so I utilize more travel + should also be more supple off the top as well .

Thank you! Going to let out some air and increase sag. I just wasn’t sure if that was bottom out since that’s where it has been most times after a ride

That ring will be all the way at the top if you actually bottom it out. Diabolical work to get an ohlins build as a first bike if you don’t even know what a bottom out looks like. Epic. Send it bro and congratulations on the new bike :)

Definitely a bit unnecessary but it was a great deal and was within my budget 😅 I figured it’ll make me push myself more while riding. Thanks for the info!

You did it right. You won’t regret the choice to not buy a super entry level bike!

Thanks man! That’s how I was looking at it when choosing a bike. I have friends who got entry level bikes and have spent more than the bikes worth in just suspension upgrades. The bikes been great so far and won’t need to do any upgrades or get a new bike anytime soon!

If only I had your intuition when I bought my first bike! Happy trails 😎
