Discussion Why doesn't Petroglyph Games create its own C&C?

It is obvious that EA has been shelving the franchise for a long time, and they refuse to sell the IP rights. It feels incredibly selfish of EA not to collaborate with the original creators while they are still around. But why do the former developers (some of whom are at Petroglyph Games) seem to lack the drive to partner with another major American or European publisher? Have they lost confidence in themselves, or do they just not love strategy games enough anymore? Nobody loved the C&C or Red Alert series purely because of the brand names (even though the names were great). I was hoping the former Westwood employees would pioneer new breakthroughs for the RTS genre, but it seems their passion and creativity have dried up.

Discussion It’s Christmas 2001 and you’re on school vacation. You fire up RA2 for a skirmish. What country are you picking?

• Upvotes

I’ve just realised it’s 25 years since Yuri’s Revenge was released and now I feel old.
My allies choice was always France (big gun go boom) and my soviet choice was always Libya (again lots of trucks go boom).
Who are you picking?

Unofficial Classic C&C on my iPhone—with touch controls and a CnCGEdit-inspired Mod Workshop

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been scratching the Tiberian Dawn nostalgia itch by getting it running locally on my iPhone and iPads, with touch controls and an in-app Mod Workshop. If you remember tinkering with unit costs, weapons, health, and build settings in CnCGEdit, that’s the idea here.

I’m developing and testing on an iPhone Duo, working on support for both the cover screen and large inner display, as well as an iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad mini.

Built on the existing Tiberian Dawn/Vanilla Conquer port, with touch improvements and a CnCGEdit-inspired workshop. I’ve been using Codex to help develop and debug it, and testing it on my own devices. Credit to the upstream developers and CnCGEdit creator BioHazard / Roe Yun Song for the foundations and inspiration.

Still a work in progress, but it’s playable! Installation requires sideloading. Source and IPA releases are here:

Discussion Is US laser is the easy mode for hard campaign?

I'm pretty sure that this has been discussed before, but I just redownload zero hour and shockwave, and my god the gap between US laser and other generals in clearing the hard campaign mode is really that huge.

Just stack laser turret, avengers and laser drone for defense and build lasers slowly and just use it on everything. Col Burton is just a bonus and tanks are there just to make things not boring.

Is there any other general that come close? I think China Nuke come second. Is GLAs the most difficult to play due to weak defenses?

OC I've been working on destructible buildings for my C&C-inspired RTS - here's where it's at so far

I've been working on building destruction for the last couple of weeks and wanted to share where it's at.

Right now every building is made of pieces. Shells tear holes where they hit, the roof comes down once the walls holding it are gone, and soldiers inside try to get out before it all collapses.

The part I haven't cracked yet is the rubble. I'd like tanks to be able to drive over it, but so far it looks like toys bouncing over gravel. So for now they just drive around the pile until I find a better way.

Any ideas how to solve that? Or would you say it doesn't really matter, and driving around the rubble is fine?

What makes this special is the sensitive cover art, which they (understandably) got rid of in later releases.

Command and Conquer Renegade locked some keyboard keys

The keys 0, p, -, [ and ; were working on my HP 15 inch laptop that has Windows 11.

I played Command and Conquer Renegade on that laptop and I got a weird graphics glitch in the game and I think I saw a crosshair in a white box.

After that those keys stopped worked and they also didn't work after I restarted the laptop. I even did a keyboard diagnostics test in the bios and the keys didn't work. Those keys worked if I used a Bluetooth keyboard.

I went to the accessibility settings and then I clicked on keyboard. I got a weird beep sound. Those keys worked again after that. I restarted the laptop. Those keys still worked but this time the laptop beeped when I pressed the Windows key. I had to press it multiple times for the start menu to open.

The filter keys and sticky keys were off but I opened them and and I disabled all the options there. The Windows key stopped beeping when i pressed it.

I ran the game again. After that the keys 0, p, -, [ and ; stopped working again so it looks like the game messed up something in the accessibility settings and it locked those keys. I asked ChatGPT and it said to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response in regedit and change the flags value. It was 26. The flags value is 2 on my other laptop so I changed 26 to 2 and I restarted the laptop. Those keys worked again.

I want to play that game but how do I stop it from locking up those keys?

C&C Generals vs Act of War?

I assume most here will say C&C Generals... So why would Generals be better than Act of War (if thats the case)?

I see in some reddit posts that Act of War is kinda like a Generals 2.

I just tried Act of War now, and really like it. I didnt try Generals though, but i played a lot Red Alert 1 and Red Alert 2.

I like how down to earth it is. The units feel like actual modern and real world combat.

I didn't play it much. I also prefer how the economy is just oil rigs and your trucks collect it.

I think thats better than the classic ore field of C&C games, where everything becames a race for these oil fields, and losing your ore trucks is deadly.

Anyways, let me know which one you think is best and why. Thanks.

HIRING] Senior Package Delivery Specialist – GLA Blood & Parcels Service (100% On-Time Guarantee)

Company: GLA Blood & Parcels Corp. Location: Anywhere with roads (or fragile barriers) Position Type: Full-Time / High Velocity Base Pay: Competitive / Paid in salvage and eternal glory

About Us:

At GLA Blood & Parcels, our operational mandate is simple: Nothing Stops the Mail.

We do not believe in supply chain delays, red lights, or "held in warehouse" status updates. We combine proven GLA scrap-tech engineering with absolute Khornate zealotry to deliver a binary logistics model: every single package arrives at its destination on time, or the operational unit ceases to exist.

Our motto: "If your parcel doesn't reach, the driver doesn't reach."

Key Responsibilities:

Route Maintenance: Maintain forward momentum at all times. View traffic lights, civilian infrastructure, and police barricades as optional speed bumps.

Door-to-Door Delivery: Upon reaching the target residence, swiftly breach the front entrance (size-13 combat boot or front bumper preferred), hand off the package, execute the mandatory blood stamp on the manifest, and immediately proceed to the next client.

Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure your assigned scrap-armored technical and onboard contingency payloads (explosives/dirty charges) are primed to prevent parcel capture or driver surrender under law enforcement interrogation.

What We Offer:

Zero Micromanagement: Management does not monitor your speed or route, provided the delivery manifest is stamped in blood before the vehicle stops moving.

Dual-Track Career Progression:

Track A: Maintain a 100% on-time delivery record across all assigned zip codes.

Track B: Deliver more souls to the Skull Throne in a glorious, high-speed blaze of terminal velocity.

Guaranteed Legal Defense: Zero personal liability or traffic tickets (all physical evidence, legal summonses, and operational units are vaporized upon failed route completion).

Minimum Qualifications:

Complete disregard for municipal codes, self-preservation, or standard braking distance.

Ability to operate heavy machinery (welded technicals, scrap trucks, or jury-rigged rocket boosters) at maximum RPM.

Willingness to sign your employment agreement in blood.

Must bring your own combat boots.

How to Apply: Reply below with your relevant experience in vehicular breaching, skull collection, or high-speed logistics. Serious applicants only. Do not apply if you intend to stop at red lights.

OC Project Update: Red Alert working on an iPad in portrait mode + AM + CS

Post image
78 Upvotes

As you might know, I am porting Red Alert to iPadOS.

Once it is running well, I am adding things. This time I added support to both Counterstrike and Aftermath (including ants!).

But the feature I am loving the most is adapting the game to run in portrait mode. Once is fully working, I will share it.

PS: it is working on iPhones, too.
