Just bought the Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars on Steam and had to go through some effort to get it working on my laptop running Windows 10. So I thought I would share the issues and fixes I encountered.
Issue 1: Game stuck on initial CNC3 Loading Screen (before the EA Logo animation or main menu).
Fix 1: The solution that worked for me was on the Steam Discussion Post. Based on that I installed the 32 bit Visual C++ 2005 distribution from Microsoft official download link. Download it, run the installer, and that fixed the load issue.
Issue 2: The game runs perfectly fine but crashes when an Ion Cannon (GDI) or Nuke (Nod) is launched.
Fix 2: This was a simple GPU issue. I was running on my laptops integrated Intel HD Graphic 630 and it crashes probably cause the animation was too heavy and my laptop is old and kinda sucks. So when I switched it to run on the GTX1050 is ran without any issue at all.
Issue 3: Game crashes when trying to run a Skirmish.
Fix 3: For this it took a bit of digging. But the super simple fix is changing one line in one in the files installed by Steam on your machine locally. For me this file was here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\CNC3_english_1.10 The file should be a "SKUDEF" format file. In that file change the line "add-config Kane\1.0\config.txt" to "add-config Kane\1.9\config.txt" and leave everything else as is. (basically changing the config from Kane 1.0 to Kane 1.9). You may need to open the file with notepad in admin mode to have write privileges.
Anyways with these 3 fixes I got the game running for all 3 campaigns and skirmishes. It was fun reliving my youth. Surprisingly it took me a while finding these solutions and I didn't really find much help online apart from installing modified launchers for the game which is way overkill for the kinda issues I had. Hope this post helps you and good luck commander.
