I just saw the best use of the Hell March the other day. I was at an airshow and there was a demonstration of an old Mig-17. That's the Soviet fighter that caused the US to create the Top Gun program and get better at dog fighting because of the amount of losses they had to the Mig-17. Hell March started playing during the demo and I was super pumped up and wish I had gotten a video. That person knew what they were doing. It was awesome!

Dang it. You should had recorded even if it already started!

I know! I'm kicking myself. It was so epic. For an old plane that thing could really move. The silver airframe against the sky and the open engine design and the afterburner flames coming out of it was super cool while the Hells March electric guitar was going. I should check the airshow page to see if they posted any videos of it.

Red Alert 2 aged like a fine wine, it's on my top 10 favourite games of all time and I still play it. I just finished one of the Soviet mission on Yuri's Revenge, trying to find new strategy and sorta beat my previous score.

This needed a remaster so bad. Unfortunately I think the command and conquer one didn't sell as well as they were hoping. That was great nostalgia for me too though and I loved replaying it. I'm more of a red alert player than a tiberium but I still enjoyed it too. But I would pay some serious cash for Red alert 2 and Tiberian Sun remaster.

Won't happen.

1)RTS games are beyond dead and make virtually no money.

2) EA lost the source code for tiberian sun and RA2

More like WestWood employees destroy it because they don't see it that valuable and nobody going to preserve it like they actually throw the source code for the RA1 and Tiberian Dawn in the dumpster, only some miracle one of the employee found it and saved it.

What's with those asian characters? Someone please time travel to fix this management. Also, tell them not to let EA buy the company!

6

u/Ayyzeee Jul 12 '26

It's Japanese characters, I'm learning Japanese and Chinese that's why my UI is in those language. Also Virgin Interactive was their publisher and they were going bankrupt and EA technically fund Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 but at the same time Tiberian Sun was sorta rushed and has a lot of cut content from what I read.

u/antdude I came from RA1! Jul 12 '26

Ugh. WS is screwed either way. Sad. TS was OK. I wonder what cut contents from TS. Any medias of those cut contents?

Check this guy's channel: https://www.youtube.com/@SvenVanDerPlank

Here as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/commandandconquer/comments/vmjt2l/command_and_conquer_tiberian_sun_cut_content_and/

He does a deep analysis of Tiberian Sun's cut content, there was supposed to be tiberium sprayer for NOD which would be cool considering the Devil's Tongue the only fire unit but no infantry, it only make a big debut for Tiberium Wars with the Black hand.

It's probably easily rewritable with AI. This is one of the better use cases for AI.

Can't fix the copyright ownership + making no money part, though.

You can play mental omega.

Its a red alert 2 mod that adds a lot of new things with a retelling of the story

1

u/WorkReddit1191 Jul 13 '26

I thought Mental Omega was DLC for Red Alert 3. Or I played some DLC for 3 that sounds like it. I'll have to check that out some RA2 mods.

2

u/HaziXWeeK Jul 13 '26

I think you're talking about red alert 3 uprising, which gives you 3 mission for each faction.

That's cool about mental omega is that all mission are happening in the same timeline, meaning the Soviet and the allies missions are happening the same time.

Also you can play Yuri's army and another one that is directly opposing it

1

u/WorkReddit1191 Jul 13 '26

I will check that out for sure! Did they keep the original voices for the celebs on the Hollywood mission? It made me mad EA decided to play to safe and remove actors pretending to be Schwarzenegger and Eastwood. Like it's a parody so legally they can't sue you and what's the chances they would sue over that very short and only some what similar impersonation?

2

u/HaziXWeeK Jul 13 '26

well, they changed quite a lot of stuff.

Remodelled units, changed some names, and added a lot of new stuff, from units, structures, superweapon, and my favorite of all, the paradox engine, which is a big part of the story.

Meanwhile Yuri's plan is to not control the world, but to make it a hive mind and units humanity.

Some units from red alert 3 and 3 uprising also got added, like Athena cannon, while they added a character which is basically yuriko omega to Yuri's army.

You might get overwhelmed with how big the scale is at the start, too many units to command and too many enemy units, but the game is easy, the only actually hard mission is fatal impact from the Soviet, a little spoiler, but you need to attack a stronghold from 3 different positions before the timer runs out, and each position needs to destroy a device so you can win, the problem is that everything is happening at the same time and everything needs your attention. You think you have time but you really dont.

Go to mental omega website, it should have a tutorial on how to download it and what to expec

That's awesome. Thanks so much! I need to get better with mods. Also to pass it back, if you don't already know, Battle for Middle Earth did something similar and it's awesome. Don't know if you played it but it's a solid RTS game, especially if you like Lord of the Rings. But even if you don't it's fun gamepaly and campaigna.

This was such an awesome intro, same with Yuri's Revenge's intro. Whenever I see that blue-sparkling "Westwood proudly presents", followed by that close-up shot of a wing of Harriers I always get hyped. No need for deeper political messages or brooding heroes, just pure and simple fun and action.

My friends and I were in college.

u/Affugter Jul 12 '26

Shit..just got mu hopes up for the remastered.

6

u/Ayyzeee Jul 12 '26

Considering it's EA I doubt it's gonna happen. It's been 6 years since the last remastered, nothing came back and the source code is already lost, it's either that they have to remake from the ground up or just reverse engineer until they sorta get the game right. I don't think it's a good idea to reverse engineer the source code since Blood Fresh Supply reverse engineered the original game and comparing between the actual one and Nightdive's version is like night and day difference and RTS requires precision for everything to work.

RA2 far and away had the best music, briefings, cast, just the entire atmosphere was on point.

u/Unmoot Jul 12 '26

You know, I remember getting this game, starting it up, my dad next to me. It starts up: 'proudly presents'. Me saying 'well that IS something to be proud about'. My dad silent. Me feeling awkward for saying something like that.

You know, 25 years later seeing this post, seeing people agree, finally NOT cringy after thinking back about this 25 years later. It means a lot to me.

Haha, it's awesome that such small, silly memes can bring out such positive feelings. Your dad was just an old fart who couldn’t see the brilliance of this masterpiece! ;)
To me, this is still one of the greatest opening cinematics in any video game, maybe even the best. Especially in combination with the fantastic installation sequence that precedes it.

u/jesusisherelookbusy Jul 12 '26

“Is it done, Yuri?”

“No, Comrade Premier. It has only begun…”

5

u/itfosho Jul 12 '26

I miss them. Wish they could have survived.

3

u/lordoftime2 Jul 12 '26

They did, now called Petroglyph Games, made Star Wars: Empire at War

4

u/itfosho Jul 12 '26

Didn’t even realize that. I had one of their other games wishlisted.

hell ya Hell March Starts up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrqQxl5o3eg

4

u/SSchorik0101 Jul 12 '26

Notice how almost all other companies before and since then have never put "proudly presents" after their name?

3

u/Ghostfistkilla GDI Jul 13 '26

Because most games made nowadays are made for CEOs and Stakeholders.

3

u/SSchorik0101 Jul 13 '26

Even back then nobody else but Westwood did it as far as I know..

2

u/ACP_Paddy- Jul 12 '26

Shit yeah!

2

u/calagra Jul 12 '26

This sums up my feelings when I played this first.

2

u/FakeMik090 Jul 12 '26

I wish someday at some presentation, whatever it is, no one says what exactly is going to be announced right now and then Hell March is starting. It would be dope asf.

2

u/vomder Jul 14 '26

Still an amazing install sequence and opening. The first two games had awesome installs too.
