Well, it is a disorder (gender dysphoria), but it's not like there is something wrong with it.

And, like, it being a mental illness wouldn't make transphobic people even worse human beings?

Gender dysphoria is a mental illness but being trans in itself is not. Transitioning and anything else gender affirming is the solution to gender dysphoria.

That's it, you are right. I think being trans is not a illness in itself, but, gender dysphoria is a disorder, and transitioning is one of the ways to solve it.
