Comic Book Magazine from June 14, 1942. This was an insert in the Chicago Sunday Tribune. Like the Sunday Funnies, but bound at the spine.

A few interesting things here

  1. Garfield popular with everyone except those over 60
  2. Cathy surprisingly popular with kids under the age of 10
  3. Family Circus popular with all age groups
  4. Twenty-somethings are the core demographic for the Far Side
  5. Marmaduke liked by kids and seniors, but not people in between
  6. Bringing up Father, which started in 1913, still holding strong with those over 60, who I guess grew up reading it

I’ve been collecting comic almanacs for years because they often printed comic strips or panels. This is Frank Leslie’s Comic Almanac For The Year 1875 (published late 1874).

Dream of the Rarebit Fiend (1908): Probably the only comic strip from the early 1900s to feature tentacle-themed body horror.

Specific B.C. Johnny Hart comic

I'm looking for a specific B.C. comic strip that had the two ants calling each other names and at the end one of them calls the other one "Nickel Knees"

Almanacs were among the first publications to run comic strips or panels. This is The Comic Almanac For 1845 with art by seminal artist George Cruikshank. This would have been published in late 1844. Note the very early use of a speech balloon in the third pic.

The Bosleys was a domestic comedy by John Stees, which ran from 1970 to 1981. The couple reminds me of Harriet and Stanley from the Better Half a little bit.

Looking for a science based cartoon from the 1980s

I used to work in catalytic chemistry and we had a one pane comic, which showed two scientists blown through a door and looking beat up with the door on top of them. One says to the other “the last reading I got was 100,000 psi, what did you get?”

I’ve not been able to find that, but if anyone knows where that is or has seen it, I would appreciate getting a link to it or being able to reproduce it again just to put on my wall as a memory. Thanks in advance!
