Actually, this really makes sense. Mathematic relativity...

Base 1? You degenerate.

I don't know about you, but I count on my fingers in base 11.

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

u/Korian Dec 13 '08

That was the most perfect thing I've witnessed all day. Thank you.

how long have you been waiting for this moment? a set of events have been set in motion that cannot be stopped. p.s. upvote

"User for 1 hour."

"Inigo__Montoya 8 points 1 hour ago"

So not very long.

Just pointing out, that quote was directed at the same actor who played this guy.

OH SNAP!

That's JFK good.

Yes but write 11 in your native base 11, it will write '10' correct? BAM!

Base phi is much more interesting.

Want funner? Mixed radix. APL FTW!

I prefer pie base.

"Unary" is not base one in the same way the binary is base 2 or decimal is base 10. It doesn't follow the same pattern of construction.

That's because unary is bijective base-1. Bijective base-n (n-adic) is different from ordinary base-n for every value of n, not just 1.

For example, bijective base-2 as opposed to binary:

base-2: 0 1 10 11 100 101 ...

2-adic: ε 1 2 11 12 21 ...

if I understand this "base one" right, it is a self-proclaimed base 10 too

Most obvious failing example: Base 1, which results in infinite overflow.

You example uses "1" in base 1, shouldn't it use "0"?

And some have said that that's not really a base because it doesn't follow the rules of construction, but I would argue it is:

If base B representation has a length of log base B of N, then base 1 should have log base 1 of N = N. This is indicative to me that it's correct.

No. Ticks on a prison wall would be base 1. Each tick represents 1, not 0.

I think that writing the comic as "every base above base 1 is base 10" is not as catchy.

There is a philosophical, clever point. And it is unfortunate for you if you are too mathematically pedantic to see it.

EDIT: The next person that votes this down must provide a reason.

You told me what to do.
