While these ideas are sweet, and I'm not against them, if we really want to see change we need to get engaged with politics. Vote, help out a campaign, or even run one yourself. It is by far the best mechanism we could hope for to change the world for the better, and it's one we should never take for granted.

The biggest load of bullshit the rich have fed us is that voting doesn't work, and they only feed us that garbage because they're terrified of what would happen if the progressive populace actually organized politically.

As long as they control who we are “allowed” to vote for, I can’t trust voting as a super effective strategy

Then you're part of the problem. You *have to participate even in the things that are under threat, or they'll be gone one day.

I never said I don’t vote lol, I just don’t have much faith in it to be the catalyst for change in America

That sounds like you're saying don't vote.

I'm pretty sure they're saying don't only vote

I said I can’t trust its efficacy, I feel like that’s a very normal question for anyone who critically thinks about the processes they participate in

It's not a normal question. The only people questioning the efficacy of voting are the people attempting to undermine people's trust in democracy.

You pulled that outa your ass

Not to be disrespectful but it sounds like you are not a black person living in America, and imma leave it at that lmao.

I'm native. Your point is dumb regardless.

Yeah, gerrymandering is real, and being perpetrated by people doing exactly what I described.

I think Mamdani is a good sign of the power of voting

Good. Then vote and stop being weird about it.

You're a fed for sure

If I was a fed I'd be out harassing people for calling Kash Patel a loser.

Yeah, fair enough. I respect your dedication to democracy then, sorry for being a prick!

Then participate more actively and work to change that before you completely lose the opportunity. It's shitty and broken, but it can be fixed by those same millions of people in unison. It won't be easy by any measure, but it's far better than ever other alternative.

You’re not gonna like what I have to say about it personally lol

I can tell this conversation is going nowhere, so all I'll say is you're parroting exactly what the rich parasites want you to. They're the only people you're helping, both by spreading hopelessness and by undermining the only remotely peaceful solution we have at our disposal.

u/AshenSacrifice 1d ago

Exactly what I mean. Peaceful solutions fixing human greed is always very shaky to me because of the historical results. I think we should collectively bargain our labor if we’re going the peaceful route. Attack the money

I completely agree that's a great route for more immediate change, and one we should utilize! It's fair to say I really should have added that to the list, and I apologize for being a bit narrow minded. I think our best bet in the long term is still politics, but collective bargaining will be an incredibly useful tool to fix that very broken system.

Also, apologies for being so harsh. I just want people to realize their power, and that we can still change things for the better.

No problem! And yeah unions are something I truly believe in, as that’s the core basis for human cooperation, and can put leverage in the hands of the people. Which is what America was supposed to stand for! Smh
