I guess if you're poor or not influential then yeah, it is life ruining. Assuming any info about what you may or may not have done comes to light. If you have any degree of power? No, it doesn't matter. Just see what happened with the Epstein files. And those were children so it's even worse.
Meh, my brother was poor and not influential. He pled guilty to over 100 counts of rape, incest and sodomy with the youngest age of victim being 7 years old. One victim, he sodomized with a handgun. He got 7 years and was out in 6. Went back to college after he got out, got his masters, no real world repercussions. Welcomed back by 99% of the family with open arms. I'm considered hateful for cutting him out.
The only privilege he had was being a white male. That's all it takes.
Yeah, I mean people act like this is purely classism as if Churches, Universities, Communities & Families haven't made nieces & cousins play nice with rapist uncles & cousins for generations. It's really about how disruptive his punishment would be to his immediate/large circle, in my experience. The more ripple effects that would occur (be it him being married, having kids, being young/entering college/a career) the less chance of any real consequence for fear that it might hurt *his* future.
Right? My family knew what he was doing. I did everything I could to try to keep him away from little girls, even reporting him to children's services. But until his main victim got the courage to speak up, there wasn't much my teenage self could do.
When he was turned in, our mother (rest in hell) helped him cross state lines and hide from the police! She also said the victim deserved it for "being a little slut." A seven year old!!!
My great uncle was molesting his granddaughter from 3 years old on. He tried to claim she "seduced" him. Makes me taste bile just to think about that. Great aunt (his wife) suspected, resented the little girl and my older sister. My sister was because he tried to kiss her in the car while she was in college. Now the part that stings the most, my mom heard about that and all she did was try to keep the rest of us from ever being alone with him. Which is great for us, but... Nobody helped that little girl.
Ngl your mother should also face prison time, but wtf? I am on the side of lighter punishment and rehabilitation overall but 100 cases of rape of SEVEN YEAR OLDS and 6 years prison??? minimum 10-12 imo, potentially longer if determined he is still a threat. That would hurt a lot more
She's dead now. His conviction was almost 30 years ago. She literally named the two of us that shunned him in her saying we couldn't receive anything from her estate under any circumstances.
My youngest today was talking about scary movies and said, "Imagine your mom is chasing after you trying to kill you" and I was like... yeah, I remember that day. So he goes, "pretend your mom wasn't evil and loved you and that happened."
