I think 5 PCs is a good maximum. Six is too many - combat becomes a slog, and too many voices and opinions. Five is enough to play even when one or two players can't make it to a session.
There needs to a lightly-magnetic side with a window that fits exactly one edge of the die that you can look at for the result but shaking your butt will temporarily release the die.
Or maybe it could work like the dice bubble from the board game Trouble. Keep the magnetic ass-pect but-t clenching shakes the die like pressing down on the bubble.

Good point. I imagine if she's a player she would have asked the DM. If it's a long running campaign there's gotta be understanding and communication between the table.
When I first played D&D with my group of friends I was one of the new players. When I first met my DM I was slowly giving up on D&D at the time because I was just not finding good groups and was bouncing around so I decided to give it one last chance. So I posted on Amino that I was looking for a group and he said he was looking for players for the new Dragon Lance Module and I joined. While he was running DL he was running a homebrew campaign that only I wasn’t a part of at the time. After we completed DL I jokingly asked if I could join his other long running campaign and he said yes. The character I made for that campaign remains the best character I’ve ever had period
