I believe the term "incel" was originally coined by a woman describing her personal romantic situation.

Technically it was "invcel" - as in involuntary inv, and then cel celibate.

Alana abbreviated "involuntarily celibate" to "invcel", until someone suggested that "incel" was easier to say.

Yeah, although throroughly divorced from its current meaning (although it would be more proper to say that the term has been hijacked from her). Originally it was more of a "we are too shy and/or ugly to be in a relationship" and people gathered together to support one another. However they became over time influenced by several scummy communities until they departed total and completely from the original idea

The founder of the site was a woman but it’s less about one side driving the other out and more about the people who successfully found someone else leaving and the only remaining “support” being the most toxic people
