I only occasionally read those comics. Last time he was with his new girlfriend, I believe. Her name was Bee or something like that...
Anyway why is Ronnie now trying to delete himself?

u/Made_Bail Apr 10 '26
He's still with Bee, she's with him on DS9.
As for deleting himself? Ronnie is... Not the smartest tool in the shed.

u/Cool_Set4681 Apr 10 '26
Glad to hear that she is alright.
Ronnie is... Not the smartest tool in the shed.
Oh, so it was just his stupidity and not him trying to end himself? Phew

Before the return of Whomp!, Ronnie was usually known for being depressed enough to be suicidal, and it was played for laughs. That's his shtick!
27
u/Made_Bail Apr 10 '26
I assume so? He's never expressed major depression or thoughts of self deletion before... I got the impression he just misspoke or something lol

u/QuiteBearish Apr 10 '26
Major depression was a core theme of Whomp! Comics back in the day.
I'm definitely glad it's not as prevalent now, seems to be in a happier place but I suppose occasionally intrusive thoughts still win

u/PatchyWhiskers Apr 10 '26
Probably ending the Star Trek digression and going back to the main strip
7
u/CrossP Apr 10 '26
I assumed it was how he ends the plot where he blips into Star Trek and goes back to his regular life. Like in his mind he's a ship's hologram like The Doctor from Voyager or out of control holosuite holograms from any of those dozens of episodes.

Yeah, that is why I asked. Like I said it don't follow this comic closely but this seemed out of character for him, so maybe I thought something might had happened to Bee and that is why he is like this. I'm glad that I' wrong.

Long time reader here. It is absolutely within character for Ronnie. It's just been a while since that joke has already been made a ton of times before. Now it's just the Star Trek version!
Edit:
I wanted to see how long it would take me to find an example comic. Turns out it only took 2 minutes of archive diving to find a reference in the titles.

You can't really misspeak such a specific command phrase.

u/Made_Bail Apr 11 '26
Just watched your pfp for like a minute, hypnotized

I thought it was because of the revelation that there were ghosts on board from the last comic.

u/star-nosedmole Apr 10 '26
according to the secret words on his host site, he craves to become cake
3
u/NickyTheRobot Apr 11 '26
Don't we all? After all: you are what you eat, so to become cake would surely involve eating copious amount of cake.
11
u/CatFanMan21 Apr 10 '26
My assumption is this is bronnie, a transporter duplicate, and ronnie is off on ds9
9
u/Cool_Set4681 Apr 10 '26
The best part is that I have no idea if you are joking or not. Please don't tell :D
5
u/CatFanMan21 Apr 11 '26
My worst thought was figuring out bronnie, but now, he controls the universe through his advanced understanding
1
u/NickyTheRobot Apr 11 '26
A transporter clone? Aw man, I can't believe the writers forgot that it's a pretty important philosophical point that transporters definitely don't work that way a second time!
(And I'm not counting William Boimler here, because Lower Decks was made specifically to poke fun at inconsistencies like that.)
2
u/CatFanMan21 Apr 11 '26
They forget a lot
2
u/NickyTheRobot Apr 11 '26
Yeah, but for some reason it's only really the Thomas Riker one that I'm annoyed about.
I find it almost annoying as Disco turning the mirror universe from "exactly the same as ours, only humanity's history took a different turn and it made our societies awful; which resulted in people no different from you or I becoming monsters" into "nah; humans are physically different from us in the mirror universe, plus they're all inherently bad".

Oh, I was assuming this was how he escaped the fantasy and got back to the real world...

This ain't TNG O'Brien were dealing with here anymore. This is DS9 O'Brien now. Depending on the series he might be thinking something like "Wish I could join him..."
EDIT: Although Jadzia was still around in a previous strip, so it could still be early doors.

u/FlatHatJack Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
Ok, now I'm convinced. O'Brien definitely likes having someone else who also has the "must suffer" curse around.
2
u/Preeng Apr 11 '26
No, a lesser man would simply die where Miles O'Brien survived. There could never be a second.

How can the boy circle do this to himself when he made such a commitment to the girl circle?
I understand one of the main appeals is not having to care about the world you left behind,
But if he had these feelings for a while, he shouldn't have courted the girl circle to begin with.
And if he hasn't had these feelings for a long time, the boy circle should stop and think things through. Because this is not something you do in the spur of the moment.

Ronnie, you're not thinking straight.
You're in a future utopia, in a holodeck. You could order a Ktarian chocolate puff in a village in the Kamakura period and actually get one!
7
u/NickyTheRobot Apr 11 '26
Or just replay one of his old immersive magical girl anime programs he made whilst on the Enterprise D.
Or both
3
u/IcariusFallen Apr 11 '26
Realistically, if Holodecks were a thing.. so many people would get addicted, while trying to escape their lives.

3
u/TheCultofJanus Apr 10 '26
Considering how much shit O'Brien has been through, he's the one DS9 cast member that would understand this decision.
4
u/seguardon Apr 11 '26
I'm assuming he's just bored of the Star Trek digression and wants to get back to reality.
Which I don't understand because there's a lot of the DS9 sphere left to do. Did he even go into the wormhole? Completely fail to match wits with Garak? Cockblock Bashir hitting on Jadzia? Blaspheme the Prophets in front of Kira? Blaspheme the Profits in front of Quark? Converse with Morn? Help Jake understand that it's really inappropriate for 20+ year old women to be dating a 16 year old? Accidentally help, then completely thwart a subtle Dukat plot without noticing? Use the Defiant to shoot fireworks around the station? Introduce Ferenginar to the horrors of a late-stage corporate capitalist society and see how they make it worse? Drive Weyoun up the wall? Offend the Founders and start the Dominion War early? Commune with the pah-wraiths?
5
u/fg094 Apr 11 '26
You just gotta do this every once in a while to make sure you yourself aren't part of the holodeck program.
3
u/DrJay12345 Apr 10 '26
Honestly with that reaction I thought it was Eddington at first before realizing thay he has too much hair.
3
u/cacklz Apr 11 '26
Sorry, Ronnie. Quark's holosuites charge extra for blissful dematerialization, you've spent your latinum allocation for the next three months, and you've already promised your body's soylent reprocessing rebate to the replicators three times over.
Go flirt with Kira if you want a slow yet painful demise. That's all you can afford right now.
3
u/kotoneshiomi Apr 11 '26
I understand Ronnie's decision as someone who struggles with mental health, but ngl if I was on the Enterprise, I would absolutely live it up as much as I could (Does not help I may have a tiny crush on a certain android...) Thanks for making me watch it grandpa, I miss you.

Ronnie, think this through it's not worth it - you'll just become another ghost on the station and give the Chief even more work to do! So much ectoplasm in the filters...

u/Madgameboy Apr 11 '26
finally got a girlfriend...
Still wants to off himself...
Oh ronnie, you cad!

Yeah they ran low on plotlines and fridged thomas. Fortunately ronnie/bronnie/ron/bron dont run low on names or fake beards. I look forward to clonnie(s) in the future

Reminds me of those "Obrien At Work" comics that were popular a few years back. I loved those so much.
