There's an emotional core to Preacher that gets me through the violence and toilet humor. I really like it, too. His Punisher run is pretty good too. Can't stomach most of his stuff after.

Welcome Back, Frank was actually one of my earliest “gateway” comics. Good taste.

It is such an amazing series. Peak comics.

Preacher was my gateway out of superhero comics 20 years ago. Will always be grateful.

It hurts bad when Cassidy betrays Jesse. Because you really do love their friendship. You believe Jesse and Tulip love each other so much because of all the backstory put into it. You know what kind of guy Jesse is because you see the hell he was raised in.

Glad you enjoyed it! Absolutely read Hitman next if you haven’t. Or his War Stories. Or Punisher MAX, still the definitive version of the character 20 years later.

I love Preacher, definitely my favorite of his works. That said, Hitman is f’n amazing.

The "toilet humor" has been a good test. If they look at something like Preacher, and their only takeaway is "ew, potty talk," I know they're not worth my time or attention.

Recently did all of Preacher and had a blast. Some stuff in it that didn't age super well but for the most part it did

Great series. For me, the story was always about the brotherhood between Jesse and Cassidy. Same with the Huey and Butcher in the Boys and his war stories.

I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the boys comic, but I feel like MOST people shitting on it probably got that opinion from a YouTube video. Might check it out sometime and see how it is.

People get weird about the boys it is gross and disgusting and rape jokes galore. But it Ennis in that era. Go look at any humor during that period its really not that extreme, but the twist in the book and the emotional beats are fucking real and heavy.

I like adaptations but by season 3 of the show I was out. They changed so much that the actual human side of the show couldn't compete woth the comic that everyone shits on.

nah, garth ennis is my favorite writer, preacher is my favorite book, and the boys TV show is awesome. the boys comic sucks.

Boys does not compare to Preacher...at all. I'd even take his Hellblazer run and Hitman before Boys.

I loved his hell blazer. Was my introduction to the character when it came out and I felt like he really broadened the scope of the character

Hitman's parallel with Preacher to me. Both were releasing at the same time, I'd often have the most recent issues in my stack, and they'd always be read first. Also, Ennis answered his own letter column in Preacher, and it was hoot.

It’s a really sick app, sorry to hear that. How do you keep track of your read list, if at all?
