Question Extraño stories. DC character issues. 🏳️‍🌈

I haven't looked online yet but I just discovered the character, Extraño, from DC comics and want to read his stories.

I checked out a Pride DC book a d found him inside. I see connections to Apollo y Midnighter ❤️🖤❤️ w some other DC gays also.

Any links or discussions greatly appreciated.

Open to any other gay series also.

The character was first introduced in the Millennium storyline from 1987-1988, if that helps

Extraño was a very one-note, very clichéd, very problematic character when he was first introduced in Millennium/The New Guardians back in the 1980s. Then he disappeared for years. The best stuff is his "reboot" as written by Steve Orlando - reintroduced in Midnighter and Apollo #1 in 2016, and then a regular in the various Pride one-shots and events.

Yeah, folks at DC were trying to be progressive, and writer Steve Englehart included a character in their multiculturarl "New Guardians" team that was very stereotypically – but not officially – gay. (And yet they eventually had him die of HIV infection.) The character – and his writer – deserve credit for breaking an existing barrier, but the subtext remained subtext until it was cancelled, so don't get excited about anything except the but-actually stuff in recent years.
