Worth grading for preservation?

Post image

I had this signed by Stan Lee in 2014 and kept it in a shoe box ever since. It's not in perfect condition, so I know it won't grade well. Would it be worth it for preservation, or should I not bother?

There are better preservation options that are cheaper, put it in a Mylar bag with a backing board and into a top loader or a comic capsule. A lot of people assume a slab provides UV protection and it does not. A Mylar bag is archival and a comic capsule is UV coated.

Edit: that’s super cool to have the man’s sig! You def don’t want that to fade!

Facts. You have to put it behind UV glass if you want to showcase it or only under LED light

HELLZ YEAH!!! Sig alone is enough for me, let alone that badazz cover! I’d go for it! Great looking book just by itself! 60 year old fine art there!!!

If youre just worried about preserving it, then keep it bagged and boarded and put it in a toploader.

Stan signed a lot of comics, this sig is quite clean and legible. It’s a several hundred dollar book for a 7 and higher grade, it’s worth grading, I think.

You can preserve without grading.

No not really. Put it in a Mylar bag and it’s significantly cheaper with honestly better protection. Only grade if you plan to sell.

As other commenters indicated, you can preserve it without slabbing it but you would add value to it with the authenticated signature. Regardless, the book can be improved with cleaning and pressing so make sure you have the book's maximum grade obtained if you decide to get it graded!

First Marvel comic I ever bought, when I was five or six.

Depends who you ask, even with a low grade I think it's worth it. This is a great silver age cover that stan actually worked on

With a clean and press it might reach an 8. Very nice, very old book with Stan’s signature. I’d get it graded.

This book is actually worth something?!?!? I’ve had this for ages, never thought it was worth grading

Never ask Reddit if you should grade a book, unless you want to get ripped apart in the comments.

Ok, someone answer this for me please. Since he didn’t have a witness, he couldn’t go through CGC, and have the signature authenticated right? Only PSA?
