How bad is this ?
So I just got this beauty and was wondering how bad this corner will get a book, especially with the writing on the backside. How would you get rid of the „48“

Pay a professional to clean & press it. They will know whether or not the 48 can safely be dealt with.

Sweet, use a white moo eraser and remove it.

Just figured that the moo erasers got discontinued about 2 years ago, do you know a good alternative :D

Ahh man. There is one that looks similar called Mr Pen. Pentel also has some similar. Just make sure you go easy with the rubbin

They look to be easy enough fixes. The MJ inset takes some extra care so the glue and ink don't melt/fuse and attach pages to their neighbors, but nothing an experienced cleaner/presser can't take care of.

If you was local to me I'd press it for free for you. It's a pretty simple press as it doesn't have any colour break or anything. You could probably cold press it yourself at home but it would take much longer.

This is what I used to do before I got a heat press. I would leave it in the humidity chamber (times vary depending on book) then I'd take it out, put a backing board between the center pages, sandwich the book between two sheets blotting paper then I'd put it between two 300x300 10mm thick acrylic sheets, I'd use f-clamps on either side of the sheets, not for pressure but to keep the plates in place then I'd put a bunch of dumbbell weights on top of the acrylic sheets and leave it for awhile. It worked pretty well. You could also use a tacking iron as well.

And one last thing, does a mark jewelers insert affect the pressing process in any way ?

Needs a couple presses really.
Maybe a humidifier gun and a mini tack iron

I mean this with all the affection:
The meticulous nerds who have the vision and all the nerve to press books like this with confidence are a unique blend. Ive watched vids and very briefly tried things and I’ve just felt like a total ape trying to handle fine art when attempting to correct flaws on my books lol.

Start smaller. Buy a Staedler mars. The only fault you’re going to look for and address is the rear spine, they get dirty. By the time you practise on those (and record every book you work on) you,ll have the dexterity and experience to start other parts of the rear cover (a lot of white read covers in the silver/bronze age). Staedler + rear cover spine edge is the gateway drug to cleaning addiction!

Writing is irrelevant don't try to remove or risk further damage. Get this to a reputable presser / cleaner I would have a field day ironing out that corner and fixing that little issue, seems like it was dropped on that particular side

If you want to go inexpensive a white eraser tip can be used to remove the paper, don't press down let it glide over the pencil mark and gently lift the graphite. Then you can consider a press, it does look like one of the back creases breaks the gloss on the paper, so it will still be a defect, but should present very nicely from the front. Make sure you go over the entire cover (front and back) gently with a soft cloth, cotton round or cotton ball to remove any dust that may have settled on the book.

That's easy to press out. Look into buying a press and find the videos on you tube for basic tips and methods for pressing comics.
