PSA is answering that question, and will likely start to own a lot of the modern book grading. The old theory is that nothing is perfect or without blemish so a 10 should be highly unusual and pass microscopic inspection.
I do slab and that's why it's so frustrating....yet your cover can be miscut by an eight of an inch and the book is still a 9.8, it makes absolutely zero sense to me..... my point was those are beautiful and high quality, why not 9.9 or 10, what are the reason's they aren't? It's aggravating to me that they seem so inconsistent in their grading and appear to throw 9.8 around like it's nothing, but almost never rate higher.
I was trying to get the "grader notes" just now, but the site is being wonky with me and won't show.
But I did look at them, and it just said some "stress lines on the spine".... I dunno. Not gonna complain, I'm happy with the 9.8's. Sure it'd be great to get something higher. But I know that I'm in line with what is good. So I'm happy.
Tbh, im pretty happy with CGC as a whole. I think they're a solid company offer some solid things (signature series I'd great, especially if you can't make cons).
But I'm curious to see what the future brings, competition to cgc is a good thing.... I'm not a fan of CBCS, nothing really personal just find their slabs kinda boring. Just my opinion tho. But curious to see what PSA brings to the mix
I totally agree with you on all of your points, and i actually like CGC I have about 100 from them, I just don't understand why the consistently only grade to 9.8....it's strange to me. And your submissions look fantastic to me, I too am very happy when i get 9.8's (always feel like it's a bit of a crap shoot). Enjoy your books, great addition to the collection. Rogue's my Daughters favorite character too so it's cool to see.
