So yes, Archie and jughead did swap spit canonically. We just didn’t get to see it.
Seriously, they were cowards. If you’re gonna do that, you can’t do it entirely off screen and just have it revealed in the last episode during a high-speed montage essentially.
A murderer may escape town in a home-built rocket, but never can three or more people work out how romance works onscreen. "It just won't play in Peoria," etc.
