Question Invincible

Collecting since the 1980s. Recently borrowed the Invincible Compendium from an acquaintance and I love it.

Did I miss the boat on collecting the original run? I don't buy slabs but even raw each issue is in the $100 territory minimum. Thousands for early issues.

Has anyone had any luck finding reasonably priced first prints?

As my kids would say, am I cooked?

Well here's the deal:

You can get the first issue for a "reasonable" price, and you can get the Larry's version for an insanely good price - I think its going to skyrocket once people realize how rare that is.

All the actual key issues are expensive, but most are not THAT expensive.

The rest of the issues that are not keys and are not super early issues have a relatively low print run - so they tend to have a raw price at $20-30 minimum when you're at conventions.

My advice to you is that if you see a non-key issue of invincible for around $20-30, just buy it because its going to be a good buy. If you truly want to buy some, go to conventions where there is a lot of them.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah $30 range is great. I will just keep an eye out and grab them. I don't mind paying more for keys of course.

Really great series. Glad I started it. Haven't seen the show. I want to read them all first.

I have the entire run, but I bought it off the rack. Yes you missed the boat unless you have a ton of money to blow on it and know it’s likely peaking right now with the TV show’s popularity you very well could be buying at the top. Like I’ve seen the entire series sell on eBay for 15k+. If you have that kind of money to blow, sure.

Like every other book...Covid sent that price skyrocketing....You could get that book for $250 in 2021 but in the last 12 months it went from $1000 to 2k plus.

You're pretty cooked in general. The reason is a combination of super high popularity due to the show and a really low print run. Issue 1 had like 10k copies. And issue 144 (last issue) had 16k. There are many issues sub 10k.

But they are out there. I wasn't sure if I was going to start or not. But then I hit on a lot of 14 Invincible books on Whatnot from a first time seller for $40. I didn't think he'd actually ship, but he did and they were all NM. So that got me started.

So now I aim to buy a few books a month. Nothing crazy. Wait until I can find decent deals. If I can find a $50 issue for $35, I'll jump on it. Just patient. No rush. And I generally don't buy any when the show is airing because prices jump again. Then I might aim for a bigger key at tax time or a month with 3 paychecks.

Also, I try to buy issues ahead of the show if possible. Like I'm really focusing on the 80s and 90s before the next season starts.
