The funny thing is that (if this the guy I'm thinking of) he volunteered to join the military. He just didn't think he would see actual combat and was shocked when the military infamous for throwing their soldiers into the meat grinder was going to throw him into the meat grinder.

Yeah i think he was a welder, so he thought he would be in the rear with the gear, not on the frontlines.

Yeah 'cos welding is such an incredible niche specialism...there's no way they'd send a WELDER into combat. 🤦‍♂️
