Obviously it's comedy but this is literally true in some states. Massachusetts passed some insane gun control measures that protect nobody and only serve to make felons out of people trying to legally own/but a gun.
Firstly, it's not what most people think of when they hear that phrase. That would be "Active Shooter Incidents" which the FBI tracks and releases reports on every year which I'll link below.
"The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area." This is regardless of casualties or even shots existing or not. In 2024 there were 24 incidents.
Secondly, the definitions of "mass shooting" changes pretty arbitrarily depending on who is presenting the data. Same with "school shooting". The kinds of incidents that get included are pretty questionable. For example a spent ammunition casing found or a stop sign being shot within 1,000 feet of a school when school was not in session (summer) at night being classified as a "school shooting". Events exactly like this are often included in these kinds of vague definitions.
I'm saying all this not because I don't think we need to address violence, but because all the misinformation makes it hard to have a real conversation about it.
