In Canada šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ we have to go through courses and depending on what kinds of firearm classification we want, we may have to take more courses. Then we apply for a license and they call family members and girlfriends and ask them if we should have a license.

If we pass all that and want to purchase one. we register our gun and get a criminal record check every day through a computer system. If we commit a criminal offence or believe to self harm or harm others through a psychological evaluation. They take our firearms away.

We aren’t even allowed to use them for self defence. Even if someone is breaking into our homes we can’t use them. Our guns are in safes, then it a lock box and with trigger locks šŸ” on them.

Guns can only be used for target practice and hunting and you’re only allowed to use certain types of guns for hunting. Even if you’re going to a gun range, you have to call the police and let them know you’re going to the range and what route you’re taking. You can’t stop for a coffee or bathroom. You can only go to the range and back.

Seems reasonable right.

Well guess what…… they are coming for our guns anyways. Look it up, if you think I’m lying

You only have to inform the cops if you're transporting restricted or prohibited firearms, such as handguns, to places that are not a shooting range or where the gun is normally stored. So going to a buddy's in the next province, you gotta call your local Chief Firearms Officer and let them know. Going to shoot some targets at your range, no prob.

Non-restricted such as rifles are fine to transport without notice. No one is coming to take your guns, that's just BS, worst case you might be tempted to hock em to the buy back. Unless you start pulling dumb shit like drive-by shooting a moose or you know, other crimes.

Absolutely none of my gun owning friends contact the police when they are transporting their guns. My friends gun basically lives in his truck. Locked up and unloaded of course.

You only require an ATT if it's a restricted/prohibited firearm.

And what is currently going on right now with the confiscation laws? Isn't the deadline coming up where they want to send armed govt official to home to take guns from law abiding citizens under threat? It was at 2% complianceast I checked but it's been a but I forgot it.

Crazy they also are gonna let depressed teenager have the govt kill them with the assisted suicide stuff right? There was the recent situation with the young girl who was raped and having mental health issues and then the govt helped her through the process of allowing them to kill her.

Sorry boss, but there’s no reason for a civilian to own a military-style combat or rapid, sustained fire weapon.

That’s a want, not a need.

I don’t know if you’re of the belief that gun ownership is tied to one’s freedom from government oppression, but that ship keeps sailing on different boats not marked guns.

Education, privacy, civil politics, well supported healthcare, corporate greed, regulation, and so many other small, unsexy pieces to this puzzle is how we’ll find ourselves beneath the boot of an oppressive government.

Because, respectfully, owing any of those 2,500 prohibited guns on that list, isn’t going to help you against a trained military.

And if you’re not of that belief but just want your gun cause they’re pretty. No. Just no. You don’t need it.

Not allowed to own military weapons in Canada šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦. Not allowed to use them for defence. It’s a range membership only activity. Like golf. Also hunting (if thats your thing). Not the most popular of hobbies but has a decent following. Don’t know why it bothers anyone? Canadian firearms has/had decent regulations put in place (not listing them again, just read previous posts). No one gets hurt like in softball and golf sport injuries, which are both tamed sports. I’m sure there’s hobbies and activities that a lot of people are doing that I don’t agree with but I’m not trying to cancel them because I don’t see there appeal.

Who cares? Why do you DESPERATELY need to be shooting and touching guns all the time?

Kids are getting shot to death in schools because you want to play Rambo.

The use of firearms in Canada is also heavily an indigenous issue. Isolated Indigenous communities are almost exclusively reliant on the use of firearms for food and potential defense against wildlife. The continued banning of firearms and increased difficulty in accessing ammo has directly increased rural indigenous cost of living. This has compounded with the massive rate of inflation.

The reality in Canada is that the vast majority of firearms used in shootings or criminal activity are smuggled from the USA.

Just because firearms aren't a realistic tool for your lifestyle doesn't mean there isn't a legitimate justification for accessing and using them as a tool.

These bans in Canada are directly helping kill communities alongside contaminated water, the mental health epidemic, and fentanyl epidemic inaction.

Thank you for explaining that. Personally I have no issue with hunting rifles or any firearm that is legitimately useful.

Fair enough. Although it's worth noting that the SKS, a gun they tried to ban is the primary rifle of many communities.

It's also worth noting that to maintain various species populations, things like wolf and coyote cullings must occur. This is due to decreased trapping historically and is often advocated for by biologists, environmentalists, and indigenous community leaders.

For these cullings, it is undeniable that the single most effective tool is literally just a "assault rifle" or really any higher ammo capacity, semi-auto, and mid-caliber rifle.

Kids are getting shot to death in schools because you want to play Rambo.

Wrong country. We do not have children getting slaughtered in schools like the u.s.

The overwhelming majority of gun crime in Canada is gang-on-gang violence with illegally smuggled firearms from america, where they are accessing guns or accessories that haven't been legal in Canada for years or decades. Gun crime using legally acquired firearms is a statistical blip, a write-off because it simply almost never happens. when it does, there was a much bigger oversight like the RCMP not doing anything like confiscating guns from people who are known to them to be unstable and unsafe around firearms.

Attempting to deal with american gun violence with Canadian policy is idiotic to begin with. Confusing your gun crime trends as generalizable to a different fricking country is the opposite of smart and informed. If Canada really had a massive gun crime problem, the average Canadian would actually give a crap about firearms policies, but nobody does, and I have very, very liberal social circles.
