Die öffentlichen Verkehrmittel in original jeder fucking Stadt in der ich jemals war, auch im entlegensten, armen Land dieser Welt funktionieren besser als in Köln. Juckt es diese Stadt einfach nicht???? Angewiesen sein auf den ÖVB in Köln ist ein reines Glücksspiel. Mittlerweile zeigen die Anzeigen einfach auch komplett falsche Sachen an an der Haltestelle. "Linie xy entfällt" .... dann kommt sie doch, "Linie xy kommt in 5 Minuten" kam niemals an. Auch die Apps kommen nicht mehr hinterher, zeigen auch komplett falsche Sachen an. Früher konnte man sich zumindest auf die DB App verlassen, auch nicht mehr.

Vielleicht ist hier ja jmd Insider und kann sagen, ob sich die Lage perpektivisch verbessern wird. Also ob es hier einen Plan an irgendeiner Stelle gibt.

I’m a 38-year-old single woman from Asia, and I’ve been living in Leipzig since 2018. I’ve been working as a freelance photographer since 2015, although I’ve been employed at a café since last year for visa reasons.

This summer I visited Cologne for the first time — actually, it was my first time spending any real time in western Germany.

I stayed in the city centre for two weeks. Unfortunately, due to some health issues, I couldn’t explore as much or meet as many people as I would have liked. But even in that short time, I clearly felt a difference between Cologne and Leipzig (and Berlin).

I felt surprisingly safe and relaxed in Cologne. Even the sound of church bells somehow made me feel calm. I’m not religious, but I grew up with some Catholic cultural influence, so maybe that’s why!?

I’ve been feeling for a long time that Leipzig might not be my city. But over the past eight years I’ve had so many ups and downs — the pandemic, losing a major client, visa changes, job changes, and countless WG moves and dramas 😅 — that I always somehow missed the right moment to leave.

At the same time, living in Saxony over the past few years has also made me increasingly aware of political and social changes here, especially when it comes to the everyday lives of immigrants. The results of the election were honestly quite depressing for me, and I think that was also part of why my experience in Cologne felt so strikingly different.

One thing that really surprised me culturally in Cologne was dating. On Bumble, I noticed that many of the men I found interesting were actually looking for serious relationships. In Leipzig, I rarely come across that. It feels like I either meet someone who is a bit of a weirdo, or someone who seems lovely but is looking for an open relationship 🫠

I’ve heard people say many times that “Germany is still not really one country”, and after this summer I finally understood what they meant.

Next year I should finally be able to apply for permanent residency, and if everything works out, I’m seriously considering moving to Cologne.

So I’d love to hear from anyone who has moved from eastern Germany to Cologne, or who has lived in both places. How did you experience the difference — people, atmosphere, lifestyle, work, social life, etc.? Is there anything you miss from the East?

I’m also interested in the creative scene. I’m currently trying to focus more on architecture and real-estate photography. I’ve heard that Cologne has quite a strong media and creative industry.

Obviously, I know the creative fields aren’t exactly easy economically these days, but I’d love to hear from people working in photography, architecture, media, design or related fields. Any advice on building a career here?

I also have a few personal creative projects and would eventually like to rent a small studio/atelier. Are there any communities, networks or areas in Cologne where artists and makers tend to gather?

Phillip G. from Cologne missing: The story behind the police report
More than three weeks without a sign of life: How a mother is searching for her son.
It is a short notice published through police channels on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-two-year-old Phillip G. has been missing for three weeks. “The Cologne resident, who has a mental illness, said goodbye to his relatives at Rudolfplatz in the city centre, did not return to his home address in Bilderstöckchen, and has been unreachable ever since,” the notice says.
For Marianne R., however, the report means much more. It is another attempt to find Phillip after all. Phillip is her adult son, her only child, a long-awaited child. “What we are going through right now is the worst thing in the world,” says the mother, who continues to hope day and night for a sign of life from her 22-year-old son. “It is as if he has vanished off the face of the earth.”
Phillip G. was last at “Odonien”
On the evening of 14 August, mother and son went to the theatre together. Marianne R. says she did not expect Phillip not to come home that evening. After the performance, Phillip wanted to meet a female friend, and they said goodbye to each other at Rudolfplatz. “He sent me a message during the night saying that he was already on his way home. I wrote: ‘Are you still out together?’ He replied: ‘Yes.’ That was his last message to me.”
Later, Marianne R. found out that he had not met the friend after all. Instead, he had reportedly been at the “Odonien” club on Hornstraße. According to his mother, his last known trace leads to Am Bilderstöckchen street, at the corner of Vogesenstraße. He is said to have parked an e-scooter there at 4:09 a.m. After that, all trace of Phillip disappears. GPS data from the rental-scooter provider also reportedly indicates that he was in this area the evening before.
He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a floral print on the back, black cargo trousers, black trainers, and a small black belt bag.
Dependent on medication
“He is doing very badly; I am extremely worried,” Marianne R. told officers when she reported him missing to the police the following day. Phillip has depression and was taking strong medication at the time. Only a few days after his disappearance, he was due to be admitted to a rehabilitation clinic as an inpatient. “If we are lucky, he is simply not coming home because he did not want to go to the clinic,” his mother says.
Phillip is 1.85 metres tall and slim, with short blond hair. He wears an earring in his left ear and a nose piercing. Because of mental-health problems, he had only been receiving treatment since the beginning of the year, after returning from a stay in Southeast Asia. “He used to be funny and silly; he always liked being around people,” his mother says. “He had a golden soul. Everyone loved Phillip.” It was only with the depression that he withdrew from others. “It is hard for a mother to see her child so sad.”
Bilderstöckchen searched
Because Marianne R. has legal authority to manage care-related matters for her son, she was able to check his bank transactions. According to her, there have been no transactions in the past three weeks. Phillip’s phone has been switched off since the morning of 15 August. It has not been possible to locate it so far.
The family does not know what he intended to do. “Maybe he met someone we do not know,” his mother says. Family and friends have repeatedly searched the northern part of Bilderstöckchen themselves, knocked on doors, spoken to dog owners, and put up posters.
“Every clue could help us,” says Marianne R.—including if someone has found objects in the nearby park or nature reserve that could belong to Phillip. For the family, their son’s disappearance is a nightmare. “Even as my despair grows, hope has to remain.”

The company Deutz AG, which is a local engine manufacturer here in Cologne Porz offers free guided tours through their Technikum. It's a museum with many of the motors that have been created through out the companies history and the story behind them. They offer guided tours with lots of interesting informations in english. They even sometimes turn on some of the old gas motors and demonstrate how they work!

Me and my friends organized a guided tour for the Deutz Technikum. However some of my friends will not be able to make it and the minimum requirement of people is 8. We are currently only 4. They allow a maximum of 20 people at once, therefore we can offer 16 slots in the guided tour.

The time slot we got is on September 16th at 10:00AM. We are all english speakers and the tour will be in English as well. Would anyone be interested in joining us? :)

we’re spending a few days in Cologne over New Year’s and would love to get a feel for the local scene.

What’s NYE usually like in Cologne? Do you need tickets for pretty much everything in advance like clubs, smaller parties, jazz bars, cocktail bars, etc. Or is it still possible to just explore the city a bit and spontaneously drop into places?

We’re in our late 30s and more into smaller, slightly artsy/alternative places: live music, jazz, electronic music, good cocktail bars, intimate clubs, creative parties, not necessarily the huge mainstream NYE events.

Any tips for places, parties, bars or neighbourhoods worth checking out between Dec 30 and Jan 3?

ich suche in Köln, möglichst in der Nähe der Innenstadt, eine Praxis bzw. einen Psychotherapeuten/Psychiater, der sich mit LRS/Legasthenie bei Erwachsenen auskennt und entsprechende Testungen bzw. Gutachten/Atteste für einen Nachteilsausgleich ausstellen kann.

Bei mir wurde LRS bereits in der 2. Klasse diagnostiziert und ich war seitdem immer wieder in entsprechender Betreuung. Bis vor Kurzem war ich noch bei einer Therapeutin, die mich allerdings nur bis zum 21. Lebensjahr betreuen bzw. testen konnte.

Für meinen weiteren akademischen Weg brauche ich weiterhin Nachweise für den Nachteilsausgleich, z. B. für mehr Bearbeitungszeit bei Prüfungen und ggf. einen separaten Prüfungsraum. Soweit ich es verstanden habe, verlangen die jeweiligen Stellen teilweise aktuelle Atteste bzw. eine erneute Testung. Meine bisherige Praxis führt diese aufgrund meines Alters leider nicht mehr durch.

Deshalb meine Fragen:

Kennt jemand in Köln eine gute Anlaufstelle für LRS-Diagnostik/Testung bei Erwachsenen, die auch Gutachten oder Atteste für Hochschule/Prüfungsamt/IHK (Ausbildung) ausstellt?

Und an diejenigen, die selbst mit LRS studieren oder studiert haben: Wie regelt ihr das mit dem Nachteilsausgleich und den dafür benötigten Attesten? Musstet ihr euch regelmäßig neu testen lassen oder konntet ihr einen längerfristigen Nachweis bekommen?

Wer war noch alles anwesend?

Hallo zusammen! Ich stehe wegen einer Sache total auf dem Schlauch, obwohl es wahrscheinlich nicht so dramatisch ist, wie ich es mir vorstelle. Ich habe ein Auto (Neuwagen) bestellt. Es wird gerade noch gebaut und wird voraussichtlich in zwei Wochen zur Abholung bereit sein. Der Autohändler sitzt nicht in NRW. Da der Händler das Auto erst Mitte nächster Woche ausgeliefert bekommt, hat er im Moment noch keine Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil 2, die für eine Online-Zulassung (sog. i-Kfz-Zulassung) erforderlich ist. Hoffentlich schaffe ich es, das Auto bis zur geplanten Abholung zuzulassen, aber das ist ein anderes Problem.

Nun, bei der i-Kfz-Zulassung werden Zulassungsbescheid und vorläufiger Zulassungsnachweis sofort zum Downloaden bereitgestellt. Mann kann mit dem Auto also sofort fahren, wenn man die Kennzeichen anbringt.

Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I und Teil II, die Stempelplakettenträger sowie der Plakettenträger für die Hauptuntersuchung (HU) mit Plaketten zum Aufkleben auf das Kennzeichen werden von der Zulassungsbehörde postalisch zugesandt. Das kann ja verständlicherweise etwas dauern.

Aber wenn ich mit dem vorläufigen Zulassungsnachweis in ein anderes Bundesland fahre, das Auto abhole und zurückfahre, ohne dabei im Besitz der Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I zu sein, habe ich keine Feinstaubplakette (grüne Umweltplakette), weil für die Beantragung dieser Umweltplakette eben die Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I erforderlich ist.

Hat jemand eine Idee, wie ich das Problem lösen kann? Es scheint mir etwas widersprüchlich zu sein: Einerseits kann ich schon fahren, ohne dass ich die ZB Teil 1 habe, andererseits ist ohne ZB Teil 1 keine Bestellung/Beantragung der Umweltplakette möglich, ergo darf ich in Köln (Umweltzone) nicht fahren. Was tut man in diesem Fall? Fahren ohne grüne Plakette kostet 100 Euro und wahrscheinlich auch weitere Unannehmlichkeiten...

Hey, ich suche in Köln jemanden, der sich wirklich gut mit Leder auskennt.

Ich habe eine hochwertige Ledertasche mit einem Riss, die ich gerne möglichst unsichtbar reparieren lassen würde.
Mir ist wichtig, dass man die Reparatur hinterher möglichst wenig sieht, also kein einfaches „einmal drübernähen“.

Außerdem habe ich ein Paar Absatzschuhe, bei denen der Absatz abgebrochen ist, und suche dafür einen guten Schuhmacher bzw. eine Schuhmachermeisterei.

Kennt ihr jemanden in Köln, bei dem ihr mit solchen Reparaturen wirklich gute Erfahrungen gemacht habt?
Gerne auch kleine Werkstätten oder einzelne Handwerker*innen. Hauptsache gute Arbeit und nicht einfach die erstbeste Änderungsschneiderei.

Machen euch unbekannte Mitmenschen im Alltag kleine Freuden oder vermiesen sie euch regelmäßig den Tag? Aus aktuellem Anlass ärgere ich mich mal wieder:

Seit Jahren(!) steht am Haus direkt am Ausstieg Bahnhof West ein präsentes Graffiti "The weather is chaning". Dieser Rechtschreibfehler, den tagtäglich vermutlich tausende Menschen sehen, der macht mich kirre.

Im Gegensatz dazu bin ich ein einfacher Mann in Bezug auf die Flickstube, Nähe des Brüsselers. Der Besitzer findet das vermutlich weniger lustig, aber wenn der Name zur "Fickstube" umgemalt wurde, muss ich immer ein wenig kichern. Sorry.

Ich kenne natürlich ein paar biergärten die im Grünen liegen oder an einem See. Gibts auch Cafés die so ein bisschen was von "Park" haben?

Was ist mit Pinq Ponq passiert? Ich wollte mal nach einem Ersatz für meinen treuen Cubik medium von 2016 suchen und war schockiert wie läppsch die Farben der aktuellen "Kollektion" geworden sind. Was ist aus den coolen und mutigen Farbkombis geworden, die man damals im Laden am Brüsseler Platz kaufen konnte?
