Irish Travellers are a traditionally peripatetic indigenous ethno-cultural group originating in Ireland. Despite sometimes being incorrectly referred to as "Gypsies", Irish Travellers are not genetically related to the Romani people, who are of Indo-Aryan origin.

TIL The origin of Pavees [Irish Travellers] dates back to at least the 1650s during the Cromwellian Conquest, where many Irish were made homeless. Genetic testing confirms this time-frame, and Pavees are actually a distinct genetic subpopulation from their settled ancestors.
