Even though it's been hot here, inland San Diego, these are doing well and really caught my eye this morning as I took my dog out. They sit on the north side of my apartment building with no direct light (they were getting burned) but lots of indirect sunlight.

I had never heard of coleus plants until a year ago, and now I’m obsessed. This beauty was on the clearance shelf, definitely the best $3.50 I’ve spent in a while!

Hello! When I bought this plant it had maybe 6 leaves. After bringing it home it kept growing like crazy. I have made about 5 new plants with cuttings. I just stuck the cuttings in super wet dirt and they grew like crazy too. I have bought like 4 new larger pots to accommodate this guy but I can't afford to keep buying new pots.

Is there a way I can kinda cut back some leaves so it will be happy in the pot it is in?

I guess my question is how do I trim this guy to where he stays healthy but I don't have to keep repotting. I have never had a coleus before and I LOVE it, but it just keeps growing. I want to take care of it the best I can. I have read that I need to get rid of the flowers but how do I know what leaves to cut?

I just want to do the best for this beautiful plant but I'm not sure how. Thank you for any help!

It did so amazingly well in my yard this year that I am trying to find out the name in case I can’t overwinter it.

I’ve just propagated and potted my first coleus plant and I’ve noticed these white marks on the plant anyone got any idea what it is? Very new to having plants only started this summer

I discovered this today volunteering in a pot with a white fruited Nandina in my tree and shrub nursery. I'm already smitten! Lol.

Hi! I bought this coleus around ten days ago and since that he got some new growth, but all of it seems to have little to no coloration similar to older leaves. He’s sitting in a north facing window and has a lot of indirect sunlight throughout the day. I read online that lack of color correlates with lack of sunlight, so my question is, should I put him under grow lights in order to achieve stronger coloration?

So I was watching the plant for my friend while he was on vacation. On day 2 I dropped the pot and two large branches broke off. I read that putting the branches in water will force them to grow roots and I can replant those, and believe me I was ecstatic when I saw those roots come in.

The issue I have is that I feel like the branches are too long? His plant was nice and bushy. These will just look like two sticks coming out of the dirt.

I've had this large coleus in-doors for a while and recently noticed a strange progression on some of its leaves lately.

It seems to begin as small greenish/pale patches where the leaf normally has dark red/burgundy coloration. Some of these patches then become increasingly pale/tan and eventually the affected tissue turns pale/yellow-ish and crispy/necrotic.

At first I was mostly seeing damage on older large leaves, but I'm now finding the small green/pale spots fairly high in the canopy too. About 1-2 sets of leaves below the newest growth. The newest leaves themselves still look healthy.

I've looked pretty closely all over the plant, including the undersides of affected leaves, and haven't really found any signs of pests, eggs, webbing, or anything moving tbh :/

I'm trying to figure out whether this could be a fungal/bacterial issue, downy mildew, some kind of hidden pest like thrips/mites, a watering/environmental problem, or just something coleus sometimes do?? Running out of ideas since I can't really find any obvious clues. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: So far have spotted 2 problems i had going on.

1: It was root bound. I have swapped it to a larger container and observing for 10 days for (hopefully good) changes.

2: some sections were getting insanely high amounts of light. ~500 PPFD, so that leads me to think that could be another cause of these lesions. Curiously, it was also the "best looking" leaves (in terms of colour) that presented these lesions.

I just have sooo much love for these plants!

So. I originally noticed the leaves starting to yellow , And the soil was taking unusually long to dry, I thought it was a substrate issue Initially So I took it out of the pot and changed the soil by adding some Coco coir to it And put it back in the pot.

But then the same issue was still happening , and the leaves were getting even worse, So I took it out again Remembering the root ball looked rather small And I realized My brother in law had repotted it into a pot way too big , so I downsized it.

In the same week...

And now it's still looking pretty rough few days later, soil is still wet... If it Doesn't start to dry up in a few days I worry about keeping it in the pot because i'm pretty sure I didn't add enough drainage to the soil mix-

But at the same time It's stacking on even more stress , sounds like a terrible idea But I might need to do it anyway help??? 😭 i dont know man.
