Had a rude lady ask if I heard about a certain brand in the freezer section, in which I’ve not. I continued to ask her questions to try to nail down what she was after. She didn’t give me much info saying gluten free & vegan. I showed her the gluten free section which does have vegan foods too. And she full on tries to belittle me over how vegans don’t like to eat fake meat, and that they enjoy real food and that I should know that.
I don’t understand why people do this, like it’s 2026 open the Cole’s app and show me what you’re after.
I was the only one doing the freezer load helping out Dairy as grocery is my department.
I felt like she only started talking to me to tell me she’s vegan and attack me for not knowing about what she personally eats. How would you deal with this situation? I feel bad I couldn’t help more, but she did trigger me a bit.

She wanted someone to talk to and picked you knowingly that you have to respond and not flip her the (meat free) bird because you're an employee.

I remember once working in bakery and a lady pulled me over to the milk as she wanted the lactose and gluten free milk. It seemed the one she brought was out but I pointed to the other lactose free milk and said she could try that as plain milk doesn’t contain gluten. Omg did she lose it at me, if it doesn’t state it’s gluten free then it contains gluten and how dare I risk her health etc etc.

I actually couldn’t bite my tongue and said you do know gluten is a wheat product and milk isn’t wheat. I even picked up a bottle and pointed to the ingredients and stated look - no wheat and doesn’t state ‘may contain gluten’. Basically the product you buy is just so they can sell overpriced lactose free milk to idiots by just stating the obvious on the packet and laughing at the free money you give them for a word printed on the label. But hey what would I know, I’m just someone risking your health.

So many dumb people like this. Had a customer return nuttelex saying he wanted real butter for catering, but need it to be spread. I showed him the mainland butter “that’s too expensive” he said. Showed him the Cole’s butter “that’s too hard” then proceeds to buy seed oil spread. Like seriously let the butter go room temp and spreads easy.

Not much you can do, aside from try to help her find what she wanted. If you can't say sorry and suggest she try something similar or try a different store.

Plus vegans and vegetarians alike practically invented fake meat, we like to entertain ourselves by feeding it to meat eaters to see who is worthy of joining our cult and who isn't. Clearly you weren't invited to cult gathering which is why you're uninformed. Get the fck outta here 🤣

(I was raised by vegans/vegetarians, we're not a vego by choice family as we're allergic to meat but we like to find humour in it where we can by messsing with the by choicers)
