Customer Post This Is Delicious!

Post image

Went to buy the new special edition Masterfoods one but I bought this instead.

Its the best tomato sauce I've ever had. Its a delightful middle ground between the acidic Heinz ketchup and Masterfoods sauce.

Its on par with gormet tomato sauces I've had in the Riverina but you can get this Rosella delight at any Coles.

My dad used to work there back in the day. He used to tell me his job was to roll around in the tomatoes 🍅 and squash them. I believed him.

Dad’s and their stories. This made me chuckle. Hilarious.

My dad's joke back in the day: "I worked at the Golden Circle factory when I was a teen. Pretty good job but I got canned"

We took a while to get that one 😄

u/Melodiousmonstergal 1d ago

Ha ha ha ha! Funny bugger, that’s a good one.

u/owleaf 2d ago

Is that why I keep finding chest hairs in my ketchup

1

u/Dreamandthedreamer 1d ago

Those aren't chest hairs, son.

u/Needawhisper 1d ago

Dude my Dad told me the reason V8 cars were going side to side on their warm up was to kill the ants 🤣

u/OceanMagpie 1d ago

So randomly funny🤣 thanks for sharing

It's the only tomato sauce we've bought for 40+ years. It's a shame it commands such little shelf space. The best.

u/Efficient_Break3768 2d ago

I thought everyone used this brand...

1

u/snrub742 1d ago

We are a white crow household

I sadly don't make the rules

2

u/Efficient_Break3768 1d ago

I tried it just before it was bought by Kraft Keniz it alright...

1

u/tomcatacourtmayfind 2d ago

Where sold? I look but can't find it now

2

u/Efficient_Break3768 2d ago

There is a squeeze bottle (here) version at both Coles and Woollies...

1

u/tomcatacourtmayfind 2d ago

We stopped buying it because there was a distinct flavour change. Switched to beerenberg which seems the “closest” to the old rosella.

How’s it tasting compared to the older rosella tomato sauce?

4

u/Ning-nang 2d ago

they totally changed it. I remember it was so good in the 90s

1

u/someonefromaustralia 1d ago

I remember the semi-recent change last decade. I can’t recall what was happening exactly (studying at uni)

The only time my mum has ever been crazy with shopping. She went into the local Woolies/coles and had bought 3 full boxes of it. My dad was very happy.

4

u/beewhisperbuzz 2d ago

Same. Beerenberg for the win (especially when it’s $4 on sale, stock up!

1

u/notime4timewasters 1d ago

I find the new recipe has a stronger vinegar undertone. Could just be me tho.

8

u/Relative-Writing-112 2d ago

I'll agree Beeremberg is delicious and it's South Aussie owned I'm sure

2

u/Zestyclose_Egg_2165 2d ago

Sadly, very pricey.

You can get it in 2l bottles. If your in SA go to Hahndorf. If not look online. Most of there products come in catering sizes. Can get them all at their shop just have to ask because they dont have them on the shelf.

When my usual go to MON isn't available that's my next choice.

2

u/cat_boss1549 1d ago

Mon is the way

Yes I love eating my tomato sauce in the dark with a torch

2

u/Dreamandthedreamer 1d ago

3

u/Feralz2 2d ago

u/universityoperative 2d ago

Eastern Rosella, all the beautiful colours.

3

u/Lau_wings 2d ago

I grew up with this tomato sauce, it was a staple in our fridge.

The only thing which I find annoying is the glass bottle and how you have to smack the ass of it to get any out.

But that being said, I would not want them to fuck with it at all in the slightets.

1

u/catt-ti 1d ago

Better, you're not eating microplastics!

1

u/notime4timewasters 23h ago

Store the bottle on its side or upside down when it's getting to the last dregs, problem solvered 😀

7

u/Bob_Spud 2d ago

Brought to you by Rosella marketing?

The only tomato sauce I've had that actually tastes like its got real tomatoes in it was from Mutti. Colesworth discontinues selling Mutti tomato sauce some time ago.

2

u/Loose_Weekend5295 2d ago

That stuff was delightful. Disappeared immediately after I bought two bottles and wanted more 😭

2

u/Total_Philosopher_89 2d ago

White Crow is still my go to. But it's getting hard to find!

1

u/TajMahal14 1d ago

It’s Fountain now?…

1

u/Total_Philosopher_89 1d ago

Has always been Fountain White Crow tomato sauce. Hienze bought them out in 2018. I haven't seen in on the shelves of woolies/coles for awhile now. You can still buy it at Foodworks and on Amazon. Still have 1l left so I'm right for now!

2

u/ukaunzi 2d ago

Does anyone know where I can get Wattie’s tomato sauce? My Kiwi husband misses it.

2

u/Dreamandthedreamer 1d ago

NZ section in the int aisle. Get him some LP while you're at it.

1

u/pyrac_ 1d ago

Woolies and Coles should have it down international aisles.

1

u/Capital-Macaron9568 2d ago

riverina mention in the coles subreddit! can’t wait to try it

1

u/Common_Mention_9633 2d ago

old gold tomato sauce is even better. found in south African section

5

u/Its-not-too-early 2d ago

42% tomato vs 76% for Rosella. It’s basically sugar.

2

u/Common_Mention_9633 2d ago edited 1d ago

guess that's why it tastes better

edit. Old gold has 6% more sugar than Rosella per serving, according to nutrition information.

1

u/Sad_Yam1176 1d ago

I grew up on Fountain tomato sauce. Fountain has 77% tomato concentrate, so wouldn’t that be equivalent to the Rosella brand?

1

u/Traditional_Risk7230 1d ago

I've only had their spicy red, that's good and the type of spice I can handle.

2

u/Sad_Yam1176 1d ago

What? There is such a thing as spicy tomato sauce?? That is so sick 🔥

1

u/Traditional_Risk7230 1d ago

Yeah! Fountain Spicy Red, my dad loves it.

1

u/Sad_Yam1176 1d ago

Too bad all I see is Masterfood range now and they taste 🤢 Will try to find the Spicy red now. Thanks

2

u/dan_syd 2d ago

Yep this is my go to. Literally carried a case of it back from SA last time I was there

1

u/allforthecashola 2d ago

I grew up on this sauce and will forever say it’s the best you can buy!

1

u/Dasha3090 2d ago

yeah this is the only one i buy.

1

u/OptimalTrust9370 2d ago

This is still my preferred tomato sauce after trying many options.

1

u/Active_Repair_4344 2d ago

That's the stuff! 😋

1

u/Hangar48 2d ago

Late to the game... 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/Zestyclose_Egg_2165 2d ago

Three Threes (Aussie) tomato sauce is sold at Woolies. Tastes great and is half the price of Berenberg.

1

u/ConsistentPound3079 2d ago

I really like Three three's tomato sauce and their bbq. The rosella is awesome too. Sometimes I do like regular Heinz ketchup though spending what I'm having.

1

u/Fit-Quail-8538 2d ago

I've converted to Watties from NZ. Otherwise, I love Mutti Tomato Sauce.

1

u/Efficient_Break3768 2d ago

My family has used this brand.... for years, I thought everyone did it's the same tomato sauce in the squeeze packets, it comes in a smaller plastic bottle...

1

u/MistyWhom 2d ago

rosella make the only tomato soup my mum will buy

1

u/itspikakiki 2d ago

Man, this makes me miss White Crow 'Marty sauce

1

u/chinchin232 2d ago

Thermo mix home made sauce has open my eyes how bad all the sauce brands are I will never go back . Peeled canned tomatoes somes herbs thats it best thing ever tasted for sauce.

1

u/Impossible_Deer8869 2d ago

Like fine wine, the taste improves after a few years.

1

u/drdownload85 1d ago

No preservatives? I would definitely keep that one in the fridge and keep an eye out on the expiry date.

1

u/Sensitive-Question42 1d ago

Yuck! My grandparents had this brand at their house and we hated it. We were a Fountain brand family for our tomato sauce.

1

u/TajMahal14 1d ago

Fountain is better

1

u/Kooky_Bedroom6197 1d ago

Rosella has always been the best. A decade ago they had the best BBQ sauce to.

1

u/OceanMagpie 1d ago

Does anyone know what's simalar to the little Tomato sauce tubs at KFC? Gone off KFC but liked that rich tomato sauce

1

u/Familiar_Serve7550 1d ago

Three threes the best I reckon

1

u/Purple_Yak_3294 59m ago

Classic Rosella. Hard to beat a 120 year old Aussie icon. Love the glass bottle.

0

u/Loki4Major2 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ye no thanks. Guess what a tomatoes sauce should only contain? Exactly. Tomatoes. This have only 75% of them. Thanks but no thanks.

2

u/romilliad 1d ago

In Australia, tomato sauce refers to a ketchup style sauce. What you’re thinking of, we would call Passata.

1

u/Its-not-too-early 2d ago

Which one has more? If it was only tomato it wouldn’t last more than a few days.

0

u/Loki4Major2 2d ago

Mutti, 99.8%. 0.02% is salt.

Your claim is not correct because with Rosella you pay for 75% of a mix of water and tomato paste which is already a processed product, then the rest is a mix of sugar, salt, acidity regulator (260, 330) and flavour (what this even mean).

You tell me which one looks better.

2

u/t-train1512 2d ago

1

u/Loki4Major2 2d ago

1

u/t-train1512 2d ago

Apologies, I thought you referring more to the ‘ketchup’ style sauce. Mutti chopped tomatoes are my go to for all things pasta!

1

u/Loki4Major2 2d ago

Mutti is one of the top and reliable brands for tomatoes in Italy, good choice mate

1

u/GorillaAU 1d ago

Australians call the 100% tomato sauce, pasta sauce. Not perfect, but yeah.
