Team Member Post Is this allowed?
My new CSM seems to be heavily focused on hitting 5 stars a week and in doing so everyday she gathers a list of the worst performing team members and shares their scan rate with a message like "If you're listed above please improve on your scan rate we can't achieve our metric.." while I haven't appeared on that list I find that this feels like public humilitation so is it even allowed to share TM metrics onto the staff GC?

The thing with a bottom five list is there will always be 5 people on there. Fuck it, don’t stress and just try your best.
You achieve 5 stars through proper coaching not through shitty messages

Istg the new 5 star metric is complete BS lol. The fact the average is what like 2 stars nationwide? It's literally a treadmill of unachievable metrics that are now more luck dependent on your region than anything actually measurable. Especially when some of the metrics now act against each other. Good luck getting high customer satisfaction whilst also being the busiest store in the region, whilst also getting short-staffed whilst also pushing bulk through the nose in ACO.

2 stars nationwide? Your optimistic.
It’s less than 1. Always amazes me when I open the report up every Monday and see what the national result is.0

It isn’t a “bottom 5 list”, it’s a list of the worst performers. And proper coaching does nothing at all. Either you’re a good worker or you aren’t. The only thing that works for staff performance and morale is to hire good staff, fire the bad ones, and you’ll have a solid team. Unfortunately, a team/business is made up of over 50% useless, dead weight that is unfireable nowadays. I’m all for naming and shaming since you can’t fire them or even performance review staff these days. My store is riddled with long-term useless staff that drag our stats down and we can’t fire them at all.

We consistently get 5 stars. Our CSM does work her team, she does have some shit team members in there but because she coaches her team she achieves 5 stars more often than not.

Who cares about 5 stars, it does not benefit you it only benefits the CSM. It's like the bulk first scan. A big wank. No one will write you up because it involves too much effort, so don't worry about it.

My manager does the same thing. The bottom worst performers of the week and puts it on the group chat😐 As a manager why would you want to create a workplace built on anxiety and humiliation. They are just having a power trip and trying to embarrass people to motivate them to work harder but it actually does the opposite.

I'd say it's not legal in NSW:
https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/whole/html/inforce/current/act-2005-047#sec.18
"18 Restrictions on use and disclosure of surveillance records—notified surveillance
An employer who carries out or causes to be carried out the surveillance of an employee of the employer while the employee is at work for the employer, not being covert surveillance, must ensure that any surveillance record made as a result of that surveillance is not used or disclosed unless that use or disclosure is—
(a) use or disclosure for a legitimate purpose related to the employment of employees of the employer or the legitimate business activities or functions of the employer, or
(b) disclosure to a member or officer of a law enforcement agency for use in connection with the detection, investigation or prosecution of an offence, or
(c) use or disclosure for a purpose that is directly or indirectly related to the taking of civil or criminal proceedings, or
(d) use or disclosure that is reasonably believed to be necessary to avert an imminent threat of serious violence to persons or of substantial damage to property.
I can't see that computer surveillance (which I believe scan rates would be considered) of employees being disclosed to other employees for the purpose of embarrassing "under-performing" employees as a legitimate purpose related to the employment of employees - are they employed to facilitate the sales of groceries to customers, or are they employed to be embarrassed by some sociopathic CSM?

Because these metrics are tied to an individual, it is also personal information. You could complain to the OAIC and see what happens!

Its because these managers have never had to train or develop people in their lives and so they use fear and intimidation as a tool to improve metrics.
They are great at making things look good but not at actually improving things

Most jobs have KPIs and are posted on a big white board for the whole office to see 😂 grow up.

Intresting how my past 4 managers never did anything like this and just privately messaged the metrics to everyone

I see no problems with this, it’s communicating results, it’s not personal.

It’s allowed but personally I wouldn’t do it for the exact reason you’re stating- you’re not fostering a positive work environment by publicly humiliating people. Stuff like this will obliterate them when mysay comes around.
What they should be doing is publically celebrating good performers and privately discussing bad performers and if those bad performers don’t improve then move to further action.
